      2004 or 2007...

      Greetings,

      I'm new here and hoping for some friendly buying advice. I'm in the market for a used car and I have my eye on two Aveos for sale in Denver, Colorado: a 2004 and a 2007. Both are hatchbacks. The 07 goes for $5100 and the 04 for $4900.

      I need a reliable commuter -- I drive 54 miles to work in Cheyenne, Wyoming, about 110 miles per day round trip. I'll spec out the two cars I'm looking at and await comments and advice. Thanks!

      ++++++++++++

      2004
      71k miles
      timing belt and water pump recently replaced
      new tires
      5 speed manual
      newer clutch and brakes

      2007
      68k miles
      original timing belt and water pump
      new tires
      5 speed manual
      original clutch and brakes

      ++++++++++++

      Obviously, the 2007 is 3 years newer, but I'm not sure how much that matters... the main thing that concerns me is the timing belt, which I understand is an issue with these cars. Are there other issues I should consider?

      Thanks in advance for your thoughts...

      Cary

      I would get the 2007 and inspect the timing belt, only because an 07 will have a better resale value, and since there is only a 200 dollar difference; I say go for it.

      I'd try to talk them down on the 04. Reference the 07's price as leverage. The 04 is a cable driven throttle and the 07 is drive by wire (electronic) and have been known to need replacement (with no logical pattern) and its not super cheap. I think most here have paid $250ish for one?

      edit: hah, classic67 beat me to it!

      Hello Cary, Aveo is an awesome economy car that I think you would enjoy the benefits of owning one. If you decide to buy either Aveo, I recommend you have a GM Certified mechanic inspect the vehicle to ensure that there aren't any issues. Also, if you have the VIN numbers available, I could research them to see if there are any open recalls, major service issues or special coverages on the vehicles. If so, please private message me as I would be glad to check into it for you.

      Good luck!

      IMO 5K for any 2004 is WAY too high. I paid 8725 for my 2005 5-speed new in '05 (no air, so add in whatever for that for a more accurate base price new). Also, given where you're located and the amount of mileage, you might also want to read and consider the thread currently active describing Aveo handling on snow. Not trying to push you away from Aveo - I'm very pleased with mine, and would do it the same way again. But it's a good idea to be aware of and consider that information in advance.

      i have a 2005 aveo ls hatchback and mine was only $4500, it does have 135k miles on it but the water pump and timing belt were just changed on it, they just put a new head on the motor, it had brand new tires on it and a brand new windsheild. I would also try and take down the price a bit
