Aveo engine warning light stays on.

      Hallo, all.

After my 2009 Aveo was last MOTd, my garage passed the car but had been unable to cure what was causing the engine warning light to remain on. The mechanics had addressed two or three issues which the fault code had indicated might be wrong, but the light remained stubbornly on. One suggestion was that the sensor causing the light to remain on was itself faulty.

There is no loss of power, which might suggest that the sender is actually faulty but it needs to be sorted out because I know that the MOT shouldn't be issued while the light remains on and I'm not expecting the car to pass, next time the MOT's due in June. The garage gave up on the problem because the manager said that his diagnostic equipment wasn't sophisticated enough; I think they only had a very basic code-reader.

I'd be really grateful if any members might know of a good garage with expertise in Aveo diagnostics that could solve the issue I have. Thank you all.

      Henryk.

Much more info needed. What are the codes, and what exactly did the shop replace and do?

      Hi, Buddy.
Thank you for your reply. I recall that there was one code which the garage said was open to interpretation and could be produced by more than one fault. Three things were changed; I'm sure one was something to do with the cam lift but I'm afraid that I don't recall the other two. I don't remember the code. I think what I need is to find a Chevrolet garage in the UK with proper diagnostic equipment so that I can go back to square one. Again, many thanks for your interest.

Probably cam phasers or actuators the code may be cam correlation. This type of equipment is common on many vehicles. Any competent shop should be able to tackle this easily. It will be a costly repair if it is the phasers as the timing belt and water pump should be changed as you are “in there already”. If it’s just actuators you may get lucky on the repair bill.
