Searched ..a lot and still haven't found the exact answer

OK... so I have a 2007 Chevy aveo5. SVM. No ac, no power windows, no power locks, but oddly enough I have a power sunroof. Anyway I bought this car with 97,000 miles. It was in insanely good shape and I got it for $3900. So here is my question. Is there anyway my car would still be running on the same timing belt? All I know is that when I bought this car from the dealer he said that it was previously owned by one other person. He didn't know any of the maintenance history. The radiator had a pin hole leak that started spraying everywhere in the engine bay the first week I got the car but that was still under warranty so it was covered. The car now has 101,000 miles and I'm very nervous as to whether or not the timing belt has been changed. Any feed back would be very much appreciated. Thanks.

if it was, you are still close enough to needing it changed its worth the preventative price. if it wasn't you trying your luck.

      $400 timing belt > $2000 head repair.

I would take the cover off and inspect the belt. If you're that worried, I'd go ahead and change it anyway along with the idler and tensioner for peace of mind.

Edit: Looks like rabbit beat me to it.

I did mine myself and it took a good day. I had to change the rad as well due to a pin hole leak I discovered when I put the coolant in. Must have bent a fin when I was working on it. I have a DIY on the rad replacement in the How To section.

I have a kit sitting in my garage waiting for the money to install it and another 5000 miles. I just don't feel confident about the timing to attempt this on my own. I know there are tricks but, I want to try them on a car that a persons lively hood doesn't depend on first. If I had a back up vehicle I might be more willing to give it a go.

If your timing belt came off (or more likely broke), your car wouldn't run at all. The timing belt moves your valve train.

it is also tensioned, so it doesn't fall off like an old fan belt, it stays in place until it snaps.
