My Aveo Has Problems. (sputtering, hold light, check engine light)

Ok recently I have noticed a few problems with my 2005 Chevy Aveo Sedan Special Edition. I noticed that recently when coming to stops and driving my car sputters like it may stall or is skipping. Then tonight I was driving and my hold light started blinking. Then the check engine light began blinking. I pulled over and stopped and both stopped. I drove home with sputtering a little but with no more blinking lights. Any ideas as what may be the cause?
