I drive an 07 Aveo 5, has held up well for me aside this. As stated, when i open the throttle up, mostly in 3rd or 4th gear, the car produces a terrible smell that overwhelms all inside of the cabin. Anybody have a guess?
p.s smell is a lot like burning hair.

nah. it is not
transmission fluid level ok?
if it is directly related to the gears it is tranny related, if it is speed related, it could be tires, brakes..
if it s rpm related it could be a few other things.
have not changed trans fluid, or checked it. at 23000 miles
Is that a smell same with muffler smoke? I got the same issue (muffler smoke smell) after I replaced my exhaust system. Apparently the muffler guy found nothing nor leak welding from the connections and yet I can still smell it when driving in hilly road or when my driving needs more revs. Still a puzzle for me.

burning hair is usually clutch, or brake. being the brakes are pretty small is i have pushed the car to brake fade several dozen times (can do it in about 5 minutes) if your riding the brake down hilly sections of road, etc then that might be the problem. If the roads are steep, chevy started putting upgraded clutches in the aveo in mountainous regions (one of the only options i wanted but could not get) so i believe it is possible the stock clutch to smell after steep hills.
Pittsburgh has some of the steeper hills in the world...and I live near canton ave which has a 20.3° grade. Ive smelled my clutch going up a few hills..
