Have that problem on my 2008 Aveo5....i find that it usually happens when the headlights are on. Don't know what the fix is so I can't help you with that one.

My 2008 Aveo5 has a odometer that loses parts of individual numbers, now and again. I don't know of a fix, but I can usually restore the missing bits by cycling the odometer through trip and the regular odo.

it could just be a bad gauge ?

the lcd does not like hot cold cycles. do it work on warm up but not at 0* outside air?

In my case it starts off fine then the numbers starts to miss parts to it (don't know of another word to describe it) then it returns back to normal after awhile. Like mentioned in the post above a cycle of the odometer brings it back to normal or even a gentle tap on the dash. I find it only happens when my headlights are on.....i still have a year left in my extended warranty so I will have them do the repair and report back with any updates.

Mine may be heat related, but I can't tell for sure. Sometimes it switches back and forth quite a bit, sometimes never. It seems to mess up less in the winter. I was thinking it was due to vibration.

There is a YouTube video that does a wonderful of explaining what causes the problem and shows how to fix it.
      https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qFoylHvP7RA
It doesn't show how to remove the tachometer/speedometer dials though.
      Can someone elaborate on that?

Mine does this too. Rabbit is right there is an issue with heat cold and connections. LCDs loose digits when they are not connected to the supplied current. So I have to press my button "firmly" and they come back.
Please do not power off, firmware update pending.....
