Cool Aveo is part of an exclusive club: new cars available with manual crank windows

Got a kick out of this article:

It's becoming ever more uncommon, but even though power windows are almost ubiquitous in new cars sold in America, some vehicles still start out with roll-ups.

Do you even care if you have power windows?

In a large cars, power is nice because it's harder to reach over / behind to wind down the glass when you want some breeze.

But in small cars, it's easy. So I'll take the simplicity and (possibly) lighter weight of manual windows any time.

      ---

It's funny though: the young son of a friend of mine was playing around my Firefly (Metro) one day and he pointed at the window crank and said "what's that?!"

      Times change!

Power windows are nice, but its definitely not going to make or brake a sale for me. If I had the option of manual vs power I'd probably opt to save the cash (and weight).

For me, it depends on the car. If the car has 4 doors, then I'll make electric's mandatory as I'm short, rather petite, and can't reach back far enough without breaking something. But if it's a coupe, like a base model Cobalt, I'll take the wind ups. However. I prefer electrics. except when the motor blows.... like the driver's side window in my Monte Carlo (which is permanantly up until I can get a replacement motor).
      - 1995 Chevrolet Monte Carlo Z34 - LQ1 3.4L DOHC 24 valve semi-hemi V6, 210 HP, 215 ft-lbs of torque, 4T60e 4 speed automatic with O/D.... 123,000+ miles. Slowly resto-modding it.
      - looking for a first gen Aveo for a daily driver :D

I've been spoiled recently driving a Cobalt (pos) for work, with power windows. I do like it for being able to toy with the windows easily on the fly. I do always think about how long do the motors last? What kind of strain does messing with the windows put on the charging system ect.

I notice in the Aveo... at least they crank up and down fast! Ever notice that? Just a few cranks and the windows up or down.

      Not a big deal really.

Like z34 eluded to, they are nice until the blow. I avoided power window in the aveo just because it is one less thing to break. On a "cheap" car i felt i didnt want to have a lot of luxuries to fix later, nor did i want the added weight..

I just wanted a base model commuter car and I was being cheap. No power anything. I really wanted the Aveo because of the room inside. Its the first small car in 25 yrs that I fit in with headroom that I didnt feel cramped in. I'm not a small person. I'm 6ft 2in. and 300lbs.

call me new school, but power windows are a must in all my cars, same as keyless entry

Its more fun to drive a slow car fast, rather than drive a fast car slow!
