idiot... I wish I got 34 mixed in the Swift... with pulse'n'go during open loop I'm only getting 28 mixed, but then again all the short haul trips are only 5 km, so that's way bad on fuel economy... I see better than EPA on highway.

if i did near the speed limit on long highway trips to school, i would get ~35mpg maybe more. when i calculated it last time i got 31-32 mpg doing anywhere from 75-90mph most of the time

EPA is 32/22 manual or 31/21 automatic. I routinely get >=34 on the highway, but easily as low as 22 city...

Re: other subcompacts complaining about mpg

I just took a 700 mile round trip road trip, just got a new catalytic converter and muffler about 1,000 miles ago...I have an '04 with 35,000 miles on it...brand new (factory) spark plugs and wires right before the trip...so basically, my car's like new again (almost)...and I got 34.8 mpg...I was trying to stick to around 2500 rpms since I heard a rumor about that giving the best gas mileage. This is the best mpg I've ever gotten! City driving dramatically reduces it to around 17 mpg, but we'll see now that I'm only putting in premium and got all the new equipment. Last I checked (when I still had the aftermarket wires and plugs in, but after the new cat. and muffler) I got about 25 mpg mixed.

Premium is going to get you less mpg than you could get with regular. Stick with what the manufacturer recommends.
