Wishing it wasn't so blacked out...

      Hope everyone here can help.

My name is Jeramie and I just picked up a 2007 Aveo 5. I had been driving a Chrysler 300M and wanted something smaller and more fun to drive. My Aveo seems to foot the bill. The only draw back at this point (haven't had it long enough to fell out mechanical imperfections) is that the previous owner "blacked it out". The 17" rims on it all chrome and the grill are all painted black. The only bright side is that it was done well. I just don't like it. Wondering if some of you folks could give me some suggestions on quick and easy ways to dress it up quick? Also am hoping to find out how to get all the emblems off so I can chrome them again. At any rate. I'll look forward to reading what others have contributed and hope I can do as much once I've learned some things.

Are you sure it's paint and not "Plastidip"?

I was told it was auto match paint. And the rims seem to have an uneven spray on them so I'm pretty sure its spray.

Agh, that's too bad. I was hoping for your sake, you hadn't heard of plastidip.

It's a rubber coating that's a million times more forgiving then spray paint, durable, plus it's not permanent. So basically you can have a little fun with it, spraying emblems, wheels, trim, or even whole cars. When you don't want it anymore, you peel it off. I don't know why anyone would want to spray paint parts now. But this is all in the last couple years it's really taken off. I haven't done much, for example I did my Silverado's bow ties about a year ago. At the time when I did it, I didn't really see too many others on the road, now I see them all the time. Google will get you a ton of ideas.

theres a plastidip thread on here. with pictures of a chameleon cobalt ss done in plastidip.

BUT i personally wouldn't call it more forgiving than paint. less regrettable since it peels off maybe. but not forgiving.

No pictures. Not yet. It sitting at my work parking lot. I was unable to get to the DMV Thursday. I'm driving it home tomorrow and I'll snap some picks. I'm pretty excited about this car. I really didn't think I'd be so excited about an Aveo. I cant wait to get this thing cleaned up and make it look more respectable. I was trying to pick a color for the 17 inch rims that came with the car as well. I kind of like the grey color of the primer. I'm thinking I might just clear coat the primer and call it a day. Picks tomorrow of how I got the car and in a few days with the rims on.
