      New Owner From Nevada

      Hello all,

I just wanted to introduce myself to the group. I had just purchased a 2005 4 door Aveo LT yesterday. I just wanted to thank this group for making my decision to purchase this car. I found this group while researching repair information about this car. I'm very glad I did.

I purchased this car with a timing belt issue. That was the "bad" that I was contemplating upon purchase. The "good" was that the belt did NOT completely break. It just skipped a tooth on the crank pulley. Needless to say, my $100 purchase of the car and a $130 investment on a timing kit made me very happy.

I was very shocked after doing my research on this car. Most have stated that the timing belt is the major issue with the 2005's. However, the previous owner stated that this still has the factory timing belt on her. 223k mile on the car!!!

I look forward to reading more and possibly contributing to the discussions in the future.

      Thanks,

      Matt

The timing belts are not really an issue, but an overlooked part of maintance for the 1st gen aveos (not just 2005), most of the time, the belts will last the 60k miles/5 years at least. That is a steal for a car that runs no matter the miles, if the valves are good, you did a fine job

Welcome to the forum btw, thanks for your praise

I honestly would not be surprised if that was the original belt though, 90% of the miles were probably highway miles, which means the car has a lot less "miles" if you want to think of it that way (highway miles = less wear and tear).
