      Rally West Virginia 08

      It's that time again!

August 1st and 2nd, near Elkins West Virginia... more info at http://rallywv.com

New this year is the rallymoto class. Flat out through the woods, with no pacenotes, on a motorcycle... and I thought the car drivers were nuts.

I'll be there shmoozing the with VW teams, and I'm sure I'll have a boatload of pictures.

      Re: Rally West Virginia 08

Here's a bunch from the high germany, turbodawg, and turkeybone stages...

      http://aveoclub.net/rallywv08/

Had a scare on the way to the high germany stage, you have to go this long ass way around on "county roads" ... it's a one lane "gravel" road... the majority of the gravel has been swept away with the bedrock poking out...

We were passing SUVs and **** on the first portion of the road and asked one if they had run the stage yet and "Dunno, we turned around, too muddy! A jeep got stuck!" I remembered the road from the previous year and decided to keep going... we didn't drive 2hrs to get there for nothing...

Nearing the end of the road some asshole in an SUV had gotten stuck in the mud and dug the **** out about 10" deep... I'm running bridgestone potenza g009s... a good all around street/rain/snow tire... but falls flat on it's face when it hits mud/wet gravel...

I fly over the muddy portion at about 15-20mph (quite fast for this road)... and BOOM, hit the hole the SUV had dug out. Bumper crashes into the ground and the transmission pops out of gear... "Great"

I shove it in first and manage to get out of the hole with little drama, luckily second was still there. No oil pressure light or whining from the gearbox so assumed I still had gear oil.

Finally get to the end of the road to the spectator area... only damage was that the mounts for that little plastic piece that sits under the bumper got bent to ****, and I dented the downpipe from the catalytic converter... control arms, tie rods, drive shafts, and everything look fine. Really goes to show how tough this little car really is. In either case, I think I'm either going to get there earlier next year, so we can take the stage road in, or get a skid plate
