the mk1 struts would be only slightly higher.. in front i think they are about 1 1/2" shorter. I am running mk1 rears.. I have them adjusted way higher than i did on my mk1. But it definitely depends on your tire size where you want to end up..

Odd, my problem is the fronts lol, the rears are perfect. but my wheels are spaced out 1" too...
Strange thing I noticed today, when the car is sitting on level ground, the front passenger side coil's strut is compressed, and Im not sure why, I cranked the springs up a ton, both the fronts look level with each other too...
also pics are coming!
Better be........pics
Tehe I'll upload pics in a minute. But for now I think this I think a final update. Pulled the one front fender and pulled the liner out. Figured out where the tire was rubbing thanks to my girlfriend. Where the fender meets the bumper was hitting, a grinder took care of that. So all good, other than that one odd strut
looks pretty good. for the strut issue, what is the wheel well height on each side? turn the car around in the spot it is sitting and see if the opposite rear is compressed. What appears perfectly level to us, might make a car sit crooked on the pavement.
ALSO COUNT YOUR THREADS. you do not want to be 23 threads on one side and 26 on the other (unless you balanced the car on scales).. it will transfer the weight to the other side.
Thanks, I measured the threads, I'll have to try what you said about level ground.
OK, im still having rubbing issues in the front... ugh this is such a pain... It seems like its rubbing on the plastic bumper, and I dont know what to do about that...is there a DIY way to add a little negative camber?
A heat gun can help you mold the plastic piece away from where it's scraping. That, or you can just let the rubbing take care of itself. It'll eventually stop. :laughing5:
i rub all the time.. you get used to it :P
loosen the 2 strut bolts on the knuckle. pull out as far as you can on the bottom of the strut, tighten the bottom bolt. the push in as hard as you can on the strut and tighten the top bolt, that about as much camber as you can get.
Rabbit you still making the endlink kit? Im definitely going to need one. So im new to suspensions and wandering which suspension is stiffer. Im going to have about 300lbs of system in my trunk and I also carry passengers and need to make sure im not going to bottom out. I was just going to get new struts and shocks with the lowering springs but decided this is around the same price so im going this route. Thanks

i have not made any kits in a while, but i can have them made if 5 people are interested.
i would suggest looking at the spring rate of the coil overs you are considering. they vary but should be posted. the higher the spring rate, the stiffer the suspension.
Im having problems installing the rears and what to use.
The racelands came with a brass colored sleeve that sits on top of the black piece. Do I need to get rid of this?
also the stock shock had a cup for the bumpstop. Do I use that or elliminate it? Sorry for the questions im just having a hard time
starting with the upper spring seat on the coilover, put them together is this order (from top to bottom)
http://imageshack.us/scaled/large/36/rearuppermount.jpg
I put the coilover top hat then a washer then the rubber bushing then the mount.
it was extremely hard to get the bolts in. I had to tighten them with an open end wrench.
Also my rear coils are all the way down and it doesnt look anywhere near as low as yours in the pictures. I will take a pic tomarow and post it.
did you read the whole conversation? how low did you get?
I am now running mk1 vw rears. Some guys are running mk1 all around, what did you buy?
the first post was more of the starting point, not the bible.
So rabbit what is the advantage with mk1 rears
Moar low! I've got mk1s all around
Yes me too I could sit the veo on the ground with em
I bought mk2s
the back tires have about a half inch from being flush with the rear fenders. I can still stick my hand in there, amd the coils are all the way down.
the front is tucked and I still have about an inch and a half I could lower it.
The back bounces like hell. The fronts ride great tho. Just trying to make sure I did everything correct.
idk if I raise the front an inch and the back an inch if it will ride better or what.
Will this work on my 05 4 door? I want to slam it to the ground
Im sorry but with 11 pages I had no time to go threw them all.
OP can u edit that it will work on all aveos.
If you're going coilovers, it's safe to assume that every single aveo or rebadged aveo has the same exact suspension. I think the stock shocks have stiffer/softer variations over the years but that's besides the point for this.
No I didnt cut the bumpstops. Could that be an issue?
im getting ready to raise the car about an inch and see what that does. The front is too dang low. The back is close to where I want, it just rides horrible over short steep bumps in the road. Like bridges and whatnot. Its like the ass end comes off the ground.
I understand this thread is just a reference btw I dont have a clue where to get just rear mk1s
did you have to buy two full sets?
I did not need to buy any sets. Ive been a vw owner for so long is had good coil overs sitting on the shelves from several other cars...
I would cut or take out the bump stops, I would also raise the front to a more comfortable height. If the car is sitting on the springs and not the shock, the helper springs will be full compressed. If they have any gap to them, then you are sitting on the strut. Coil overs are much stiffer than the oem, and only ride as good as they would on the vw, so if you have the cheap coils they will still ride like cheap coils. which is still an improvement 99% of the time over the stock.
Hey rabbit when we install the coilovers we don't need the oem helper springs anymore do we?
oem helper springs? you mean on the rear axle? no.
Do you sell the end link?
What should I be planning to spend if I were to have this setup?
Thanks for the howto and support your providing everyone :D
quick question, do the BC coils require the adapter for the end links?
if the coils from bc are made for the aveo, they would have their own prevision.
this set up in this thread is around $450-500 total i believe
I have always wondered this question: Why do you remove the helper springs on the rear? Is the springs that come with the coil overs good enough?
Is the end link kit necessary? Sorry new at coilovers
if you want to have a front sway bar. yes.
the front sway bar keeps the car level in turns.
Would anyone know what Adjustable Coilovers I could use for my 2005 Chevrolet Aveo LS Hatchback? Please? Thank you!
would this coilovers work with my 2011 aveo lt sedan?
(check my garage)
