high output alternator and upgrading big three

I'm building an audio system in my car and am looking to upgrade to a high output alternator and upgrading my "big three" power and ground cables. Does anyone know of a good reputable source to get a h. o. alternator, looking for around 220 amps? And does anyone know of any instructional site for changing alternator and upgrading wires?

You will never get 220 in a stock casing. Mechman has one and Singer Alternators. I just got my singer Alt and it does about 135A. You only get like 60A out of the stock alt lol.

Sorry for replying to late, but if you want a 220 you will have to fabricate a piece that allows the large case to bolt to the oem bracket. You will also need a longer belt. And if you have A/C forget trying to get it to work.

You can probably try and reach out to Mechman or OhioGen and see if they can get like a 180 in a smaller housing to work, but highly doubt it. Let me know how it goes, because i am upgrading my next week probably.

I talked to Mike Signer a few weeks back and am wanting to say he could get a 220 to fit, cost a scoche over 400 but that is what I am looking to do.

So...it looks like I found a simple exact fit H.O. alternator through good ol Mike Singer.

      "Hello John
The upgraded unit that I offer for your vehicle is a 180A (210A peak/ 130A idle)-suitable for up to 3K RMS daily-. This alternator is a direct bolt on design for your vehicle and would plug in just like the factory alternator (includes overdrive pulley for proper idle performance at low rpm).
The total price on this unit shipped w/ my lifetime warranty on labor is $439."

not the best price in the world...but the peace of mind of proper fit and simplicity of install more than make up for it!
...and 130 at idle sure beats 80 at max! to be continued!

      Hi John,

Where did you get this HO alternator? I desperately need one so my lights don't dim, and my subs will work effortlessly

      Thanks,
      Miles
