      Trailer Hitch Question?

      Hey guys,

I wanna get a small trailer and I'm on a very tight budget, I dont know anything about trailer hitches, but I looked underneath the car today and I saw a hook thing, do I still need a receiver? Or whats the most economical way to install a hitch? What fo I need?Name: image.jpg

thats nothing more than a tie down for towing. You need a ball to pull a trailer. Which I think the aveo one might incorporate that hook for strength but I don't have one, so don't quote me. Not much pulling capacity with the aveo, but a class 1 hitch is available somewhere. Depending on what you want to carry, and how small the trailer would be with weight added to the back axle, you might be better off with a roof rack.

I actually wanna just tow a very very small trailer for an ATV. So do I need to buy a hitch receiver and the ball thing or just the ball thing? Idk if I'm making sense.

      That link didn't work.

      You need 3 things:

      1) The "receiver" portion, which is the structure that bolts to the frame or unibody of the vehicle.

      2) The "hitch/ball mount" portion, which is the part with the ball on it that slides/locks into the receiver.

      3) Wiring harness to connect the vehicle signal/brake/tail lights to the trailer lights.

If you're just planning to move a tiny trailer at low speeds and not on public roads, you could maybe make a simple ball mount to the car with some angle iron or something.

I seem to remember Daox's Aveo came with a home made thing like that... lemme see if I can find it.

      Here it is:

It's pretty ghetto. Arguably not very safe.

      Daox writes...

And, it also came with a tow hitch (which I find funny).

Look how sturdy it is LOL. Hang in there poor little sheet metal. Actually, to be honest this could be the right way to do things. I haven't looked to see if there is any supports in the spare wheel well.
