      Short Antennae.....

So I was talking to Whiteraven and He mentioned his antannae. His is cut down to about 4 inches, but he didn't really know if it got good reception or not. I have been curious and frustrated with what looked like an RC antennae, so I took the dremel to it and I turned the radio on....

It sounds fine, no static at all, if you are sitting still. I have yet to try it while in motion since I was also reinstalling blue interior LEDs, and the wiring for that took me all day becuase of Wire issues.

But yeah, it works pretty good on a standstill! tomorrow I will check it out in motion. I will post pictures of it soon.

To completely remove it take out the dome light and you can access the antenna hardware...at least on the hatch that is...

if you just want to remove the long extension for the antenna, just unscrew it.

      Re: Short Antennae.....

I've tried to unscrew the antenna with no luck on my '06 hatchback.
I am thinking of taking it off completely.
I barely listen to the radio anyway, usually it's commercials from the time I get in the car until I get where I'm going

Has anyone taken it off? Do you have pics? Will I be left with a huge gaping hole to fill?

Yes you will have a hole to fill, or water will get in and soak the headliner. Easy fix for a body shop.

As said earlier, the only way to get it off the 06 hatch is through the dome light--just take the handy-dandy philips screwdriver from your spare tire kit and unscrew the brass screw. The entire antenna assembly on top of the car will now be unattached.

The Hole: go to Lowe's or Home Depot, go to the hardware aisle, the part where they have specialty hardware in drawers. I can't remember the name of the part but it's basically a nearly-flat plastic disk (black) with a little tube coming out the center of one side (the "tube" is to receive a screw, I think, but you won't need to screw anything. It looks a bit like a cabinet knob).

Filling the Hole: black silicone adhesive--apply to the tube side of the disk, and stick it down the hole in your roof. Over fill a little then use a little paint thinner or denatured alcohol or nail polish remover to clean it up. It won't hurt your paint but get some wax on it as soon as the adhesive is dry.

I did this on my black 06 hatch and I'm happy with it. If I can find the camera I'll post a pic.
