Has anyone attemted to modify/change the 2007 sedan grill/bowtie?
i've been checking it out, and i actually want to try to take it off tonight or tomorrow. we are kinda screwed when it comes to the grill cause if you take the chrome off you see holes... not sure yet how many yet, i started to take it off a few weeks ago but i lost motivation after having a looooong day. im gonna go out there in a bit and look again. i will take pics but so far i have been un-successful with posting them on here so if you can help me with that i will get them on here.
ya sure u can put um on my server.
cool thanks.
i was just down there looking at it and it seems there will be 6 or so holes in the horizontal black beam through the middle of the grill. i will post again soon after i have more done.
ok so gm really gave all the good genes to the hatch and left the sedan with.......
we will need help with ideas on how to fab new stuff for the grill. will post pics soon........
get me some pics and I'll start working on something...
so i've been driving my aveo around without a grill. not the brightest idea- but i'm trying to figure out how i want to do this cause the way the plastic is molded we aren't left with many options. so far i have come up with a couple ideas, but i want opinions from other 07 sedan owners to find out what you guys want to see it look like.
so the question is- what is your ideal grill???
sorry no pics yet, i still can't get my camera working correctly. but i will do my best to get them up soon.
I put up a quick picture in my garage that I made up in Paint of what I'd like my Aveo sedan to look like. I edited the grille to also look like I'd want it.
First off, the gold on the chevy bow tie has to go. It doesn't match anything else on the car. I attempted to make mine look like chrome. Somewhat successful, but I think leaving the chrome around the outside of the bow tie and painting the middle black like g0ast did would look nice. Overall, I like g0ast's grille, looks very clean.
I kept some of the chrome for the frame of the grille, but took the chrome bar in the middle out. Its got no business being there, I think.
I haven't really looked too much into taking the grille apart yet. I've been pretty busy with med school. Let me know how it turns out boxkiller. Hopefully I'll be able to start doing a few things this next summer when I've got a couple months off from school.

looks good! very similar to how i plan on doing my grill. i will be starting on it tomorrow. i am a bit nervous to be honest though- there will be a lot of cutting involved- so i'm hoping it turns out right or i will be giving chevy $130.00 for a new grill. i think my hunny and i can pull it off though. we will see. wish me luck!!!

started cutting today- smelled awful! but so far so good. sorry still can't get the damn camera to recognize the usb cable or something like that. still working on it.
yeah we started cutting the grill and i think it is looking pretty sweet. i think boxkiller is still mapping out what she wants, but we got the middle bar and mesh cut out of it, i am going to clean it up a little bit with a dremal tommorow. a little bit of clean up, paint, and mesh and she will be looking good.
I agree- g0ast's grill looks awesome- but the grill for the hatch is made very differently from ours. I most likely will not have the bowtie at all- but I will see what can be done to have the bowtie with no center beam. I'm sure it will be pretty easy to get that part figured out. BUT The center beam is an actual PART of the grill- so sadly it isn't just a matter of 'taking it off'. You have to cut it out and then fill in the gaps from removing it. Once I can get these dam pics up you will be able to see what I mean. I'm not the best at describing things. Sorry.Quote:

i removed the chrome grille
and painted it black
i used some kind of furniture paint that i purchased at fred meyer
after about 4 months i finally noticed 3 little tiny spots of the chrome showing
i put about 8 coats on it
i would love to buy a black grille if they ever make one
i can get the barina front grill and badge for yas (black mesh with chrome holden badge) looks tons better then ur bowtie ones
the cost is $144AU from GM but if i can get a few together i may be able to get it cheaper
can't wait to get mine :)Quote:

on an 07 maybe, but there was another member here who rebadged his aveo as a barina but then got rid of it under the lemon law-if memory serves me correct.Quote:

I think it would look good with black and the chrome, would match the chrome door handles on my car.Quote:

What is the difference? Just no center bar or bowtie? Looks like it's just blank?
If someone sends me an 07 Grill, I can copy it without the bowtie and have it back to you fairly quickly...
I'm working on mine right now- but it isn't really the bowtie i care about- it's the ugly bar through the middle that doesn't jjust come off. it is a part of the grill itself.Quote:

dremel.
yeah a dremel would be great- if it wasn't for the fact that the plastic on the grill is formed up to that bar. it isn't flush with the meshy looking part- and to get rid of that bar you have to cut it out which leaves a huge gap. sooo, we are just cutting everything out of the main border and we are gonna have to use some 'fun' materials to even everything out and make it look legit. it is gonna' take some time, but we will get there.Quote:

the only real difference is the bowtie is swapped for a lion emblem(holden sig)

my painted grill
hmmm interesting, i personally do not like the painted over chrome and logo, its just my opinion but i think it looks tacky. I have to say it looks nicely done though.
naw i think it looks good, the idea is right imo, but u need to give it a glossy finish now for it be complete.Quote:
