What is the best engine oil for my aveo5?

      Hi.

I'm from Philippines. Basically, this is my second time to change oil. The first one I used was the fully synthetic oil from SHELL. Though, I have no problem with the performance to my aveo5. Just I wanna know from you guys the recommended engine oil for my aveo5.

      All the best!

      /bumble

Any true synthetic oil (ELF, Mobil 1, Royal Purple, Amsoil, Red Line, Motul, german Castrol...) so not Shell's synthetic, unless it's different in your country but I wouldn't think so... As far as grade is concerned I would go with something like 10w40 considering you live in a hot climate

Hell no. 10w40 and even 0w40 are way too thick for the engine. Any full synthetic 5w30 will be more than good enough. It would offer optimal protection and mpg. I've already research this topic extensively.

As far as the "best" oil... I highly doubt you'll ever get an objective answer. Everyone has their preference.

I have been running mobil5000 5w30, it's a non synthetic but it's what I can afford. I have had no trouble with this oil, even when going beyond 3000 miles. I just use a Fram oil filter so I still run the 3000 Mile oil changes. This last oil change is an AC Delco filter due to the Fram being out of stock but I don't see it giving me any trouble either.

where is that epic oil filter thread..?

i'm staying out of this conversation, but will say that with proper change intervals, dino oil or synthetic are fine for the aveo.

Considering that most oils now are API SN rated and offer similar performance to full synthetic oils. I.E. better fuel milleage and low temperature protection.

Even when you consider that where he live it's 25C degrees in winter? I would go with something a bit thicker if I lived in this kind of condition... I've always run thicker oil in the summer then in winter to compensate for the temperature affecting the thickness of the oil. Enlighten me please.

While we are on the subject, is there a bigger filter we can use for our car? It's another thing I always do, trying to find a bigger filter if possible.

the viscosity is already 5w through 30w as a blend, it would be fine to run year round.

if you were running straight weight, you would want to switch between 30w and then run 5w. the problem with that is in spring and fall you are going to have the wrong weight in there at some point.

here is the only chart i could find that shows two straight weights to the same in a blend..

see how the blend is good through the range, and the straight weight is only good for a portion of that range.
so if you wanted to run a summer fluid, you would need an air temp (not in the sun temp) over 104* BEFORE you step up to 40 weight.. AND you would need that to be consistently in that range for it to benefit you over 30 weight oil.

As for a longer filter. AC Delco part number PF52 will thread on. Provided there is room of course. The PF52 is 4.83 inches long. Whereas the regular spin on is 3.4 inches long. I don't know if anyone tried to put one on or not.
