      Stuck in park.

      This only started today.
Can't get out of park. Have to really pull, I'm afraid I'm going to break something.

I swore I smelled rubber sort of burning while I drove, but I think that's my paranoia

I have an '06 hatch with automatic transmission.

I know about the little release thing. We had that issue with our Nubira (or the Eagle, I don't remember) I think and had to use it a couple times.

My question is - why is it doing that? What's going on? any guesses?
      Is my transmission in trouble?
      Do I need more fluid?
What's the physical (technical) reason this is happening?

I'm going to do a search on the web, but I'd like to hear from anyone else that experienced this.

      Thanks all

It also happened to me before, they had to repair something, the lock that makes the ticking sound whenever you apply the brakes, for now you could use the emergency unlock by sticking your ignition key then holding the brakes before removing from P. Don't force the stick, it would affect the gear lock.

      Re: Stuck in park.

      It got worse.
I went to the gas station, go to turn the car off and can't. Only went to ACC. Couldn't get the key out. Had to go to my appointment and leave the car parked a sitting duck, key in the ignition.
I called the dealer service center and they told me to bring it right in.
They said it was something with the solenoid. Seems to work fine now.
      That was an adventure

      Re: Stuck in park.

hey i want you to know that i am sorry that you had that problem! like i said, my little car as i affectionately call it has been absolutely wonderful. i'm a big guy, 6ft 2in and 350lbs. this is the first little car that i am comfortable in since i was in my teens when i used to drive a volkswagen bug, and toyota celica. i guess i gauge all the problems i hear on the forum to how great mine has been.

      Re: Stuck in park.

I've read a few posts about the automatic tranny getting stuck in P now, both here and on the old board...
Probably a bad batch of solenoids, if you're one of the unlucky ones that ends up with one...
hopefully it's fixed now and you won't have any more problems.

      Re: Stuck in park.

Its a bad solenoid, to get it out of park until you fix it you have to take the key out of the ignition and insert it into the "shift release lock" near the auto shifter, its near the top, push the key in all the way and move it to neutral then start the car. Hopefully its under warranty, if not its not a very expensive fix.

Yeah. I did run it down to the dealer. Fixed it with no out of pocket cost.
