the only way that could even be a fair comparison is if you used the same year of car.. in which case i imagine the same year civic would cost @ the same as a cobalt ss... now a 2006 cobalt ss can be had for as little as 6-7k, how much does a honda of the year cost? how many mods can you buy with that difference?

i could buy a $50 chevette, and a $500 454 powered rusted out truck and with my labor be a sub 10 second car.

Good point on that, my buddy and I didn't go into detail, and I never really thought about it much.

I still believe you can get more from a modified vehicle over buying a faster one stock. The comparison I guess would be a modified base model to an off the sales floor sports model. And the final cost compared to the amount of power you get.

i look at it as getting the most out of what you buy, modifying an aveo to compete with a corvette is stupid. but getting the most performance out of it so its faster than all the other subcompacts is likely. Unless they are modified too. I modify my cars to best suit my driving style.

It will take alot for a Civic to catch up to the newer Turbocharged Cobalts. As for the Supercharged one? Just drop a pulley size and leave the Honda in the dust. The Cobalt is cheaper to mod due to it's stock forced induction. You said it would be cheaper overall to mod a Civic Si to be faster than a Cobalt SS period. This is total BS. The LSJ is like the L67 3800 Supercharged of GM's I4's. It's the Chevy small block of 4 bangers. Gains can be made very easily and cheaply.

      - looking for a first gen Aveo for a daily driver :D

      Re: Performance Chip

I never stated anything would 100%, and I also have already retracted my statement as having been wrong to a point. For the 20 - 30K that the cobalt retailed for at one point, an older civic could have been purchased and modified to at the least match the cobalt. You are taking my statement at two brand new cars and going on that. This is not the point I was trying to make, the point I wanted to make, was to take a car you like and make it what you want. I don't see the point in paying extra money for a sportier car off the line, when I can do some work and get the same if not better for less money.

Stop flaming me, I got the point, I was wrong. But the only error I made was to not be more definitive, would it be a fair comparison, no not really. Oh well, if you want to spend the extra money on a newer car, and you have that money, more power to you. I'd rather spend it over time, and get more experience and satisfaction.
