In the VW case, it does increase flow. In EVERY case it does not.
It is like me making the generalization that every V6 makes more power than every 4 cylinder.

      Like a turbo'd B16 making 400hp compared to a GM 3400 V6 making 160hp. I know it's one extreme to the other but still.

None of the I4 engines are F/I. I can keep going if you wish.

you taking this out of line though, i clearly stated twice, that the engine needed to have the same bore and stroke, and be from the same manufacturer.

show me STOCK engines, where the same manufacturer went from an 8v to a 16v and didnt increase power. Hell i wasn't even saying 4 to a 6. or anything like that, i was saying the valve area increase allows more air to be drawn into the cylinder a PROVEN fact of engine design. Not a generalization.

when you cross platforms and include aftermarket parts, of course there line cross.

Like I said before, I dont know ALL instances where you can take an engine from 8V to 16V. Therefore, I cannot say that in EVERY case it will increase horsepower.

      Here is a great example.
On a SRT4 head (or any head for that matter), if you take out too much while porting, it will ruin the flow of air and therefore LESS air gets into the cylinders. Even though the area is greater less air is getting in.
Going from a 8v to a 16v, who says that the 16v wont have a smaller/worse design on the intake ports disrupting the flow? The size of the valves plays a role in how much air the engine is getting but you also need to account for the port shape, port size, of the intake runner on the head which you seem to be leaving out of your equation.

All I was saying that without flow testing, you CANNOT say that a 16v head will flow better than the 8v head. It is just hearsay without proof.

Well I don't have numbers for you yet.... but I do know that I'm experiencing more power with the jap engine than the original stock engine..... Please note this vehicle is still a work in progress and I will post updated pictures at moderate intervals. so if interested to view the pics of my "reformed" car here they are.
