      camshaft gear misalignment 2007 aveo

My timing slipped, and I have been trying to adjust the timing belt. This is as close as I can get the two gears. I don't know how to align them perfectly in the horizontal. When I try and rotate the exhaust gear one tooth cw, the spring activates and sends it 3teeth. As for the intake gear, when I try and rotate it the one tooth ccw, the bolt is loosened and starts to spin. any help would be appreciated.

I’ve used vice grips loosely to hold the belt on the correct teeth when the cams want to snap in an undesirable direction. (On both cams. Hope this helps)

Im not sure how the vice grips will help in my situation. Whenever I rotate the intake gear to line up at 3oclock, the spring kick in right around the 2oclock position and force the gear past the 3oclock position. How am I supposed to prevent that?

First of all is the crank in the right position belt off cannot see it in picture the gear holder tool to hold the gear to tighten the bolts will work to move the cams or you can make one flat piece of metal with a wye on one end with to pieces of pipe long enough to go in the holes and a cam gear lock it is a bit difficult to get them aligned and put belt on but can be done and if you don't do this a lot

but if crankshaft position out and things are realy locking up you could have bent some valves but it is hard to over come spring preassure to align sprockets if timing jumped replace every thing water pump idler belt tensioner you need a special wrench to rotate the water pump to tighten / loosen the timing belt

Secondly if it jumped you have yhe possibility of bent valves
