92 gasoline
so i was browsing this russian aveo forum, and all of them are taking some 95 labeled thingie off their cars and they say it makes their car run better with 92 gasoline.

if you scroll down a bit theres pics of it.
i was wondering if anyone here did something like that, beacuse i am thinking of doing it as i use only 92 and they say that electrode thing is only good for people filling up with 95 gas.

You use 92 octane gas in a NA Aveo? Sounds like a waste of money to me.
-
oh waiittt. i use 89. right sorry. so should i take that thing off still?
-
octane ratings are also different in different countries, so there 92 or 95 could be equal to our 89

Hey all,
I actually tested this with my car last season. I had been running 92oct and for a race event went down to reg gas. My car actually performed better. Better throttle response coming out of corners, quicker off the line. But the car did sound kind of flat at idle but it sure did not perform that way.

i thought the only reason you would need a higher octane fuel is so it doesnt burn at a lower tempature, i.e. when boosting.
-
yea the only reason to use higher octane is for high compression or boost, but some people still try to run it all the time and say they have gains but its just in their head

North America uses an average of the motor octane number (MON) and the research octane number (RON) i.e. (M+R)/2. Europe, Asia and Australia usually use the Research octane which is always higher. RON 91-95 is the same as 87 (M+R)/2.

jesus, countries can never agree on anything  ...lol
-
Nah just the USA has to be different and Canada plays along :)
-
i use higher octane (premium) because at high altitudes the car runs better, it's recommended that we use plus, plus at 10 cents more a gallon I don't really care about saving a whole dollar.
-
:) thanks for all the responses. but does anyone know what that 95 electrode thingie is for? should we take ours off if we use regular gas (89)? or is that only in european countries. thanks

Have you looked in your car to see that we even have a jumper like that??
-
nope, im a newblet so thats why im asking.
-
First, they probably have the 1.4L engine, so overall the configuration is going to be a little different.
Secondly, North American Aveos are meant to run on 87 octane. If you run 91, you *might* gain 1 HP at most, but you also run the risk for forming carbon deposits on the heads.
The converse is different, though. If your car is tuned to run 91 and you put 87 octane in there, you may lose at least 5-10% power.
So, if there turns out to be a jumper there, it'll probably be set for 87 octane. You can try to figure out which jumpers need to be "jumped" to let the car run 91 octane (from what I understand with the babelfish web page translator you can do) and run 91 octane but I doubt you'll gain anything noticeable, performancewise.

hm allright. thanks. ill just keep it how it is.
