92 gasoline

so i was browsing this russian aveo forum, and all of them are taking some 95 labeled thingie off their cars and they say it makes their car run better with 92 gasoline.

i was wondering if anyone here did something like that, beacuse i am thinking of doing it as i use only 92 and they say that electrode thing is only good for people filling up with 95 gas.

You use 92 octane gas in a NA Aveo? Sounds like a waste of money to me.

oh waiittt. i use 89. right sorry. so should i take that thing off still?

octane ratings are also different in different countries, so there 92 or 95 could be equal to our 89

Hey all,
I actually tested this with my car last season. I had been running 92oct and for a race event went down to reg gas. My car actually performed better. Better throttle response coming out of corners, quicker off the line. But the car did sound kind of flat at idle but it sure did not perform that way.

i thought the only reason you would need a higher octane fuel is so it doesnt burn at a lower tempature, i.e. when boosting.

yea the only reason to use higher octane is for high compression or boost, but some people still try to run it all the time and say they have gains but its just in their head

North America uses an average of the motor octane number (MON) and the research octane number (RON) i.e. (M+R)/2. Europe, Asia and Australia usually use the Research octane which is always higher. RON 91-95 is the same as 87 (M+R)/2.
