      Funny transmission holes

I was changing my oil yesterday, and while I was underneath my car I noticed some weird little gaps along the seam where the engine block and transmission meet. They looked dark inside, as if they opened right into the gearbox. And there were little rubber inserts inside them, which were very loosely placed. Anybody seen these before?? And what the heck are they?

I'll post a pic of what I'm talking about soon, I just didn't have time today.

I think your talking about the inspection holes in the bell housing, usually used for checking the condition of the flywheel.

i agree with this too, without looking, the let you inspect the flywheels. clutch, etc. but sometimes they can also be used to access the bolts for the oil pan..

Here's a pic of what I mean. I suppose the transmission fluid doesn't go as far as the flywheel, or else it would all run out onto the ground. I dont know much about trannys...

not sure what the square rubber piece is for, but i know the bottom hole allows u to access a bolt to drop oil pan.

The square rubber piece is the inspection hole.
