depending on what they look like in person i may trade my aveo for one, i know i will probably have the mileage for a trade by then.
and to respond to some other comments:
also they "do" make a 3 door aveo now. its not short, just a different 1/4 panel, and longer door.
and as far as us not getting the good engine, VW, AUDI, mercedes, volvo, ford all keep the good engines in europe. they cant get them to pass us emissions standards for the amount of money that the could generate interest out of the market. its becoming all too common for the US to raise emissions standards to be above the most efficient engines in europe.
an example of this:
some of this info may be wrong, it was from a post in a vw forum... but internest searches prove some/most of it..
vw has developed a twin charged 1.4 16v, with a turbo and supercharger claiming over 200hp, and around 50-70mpg potential but with the twin chargers is cant have a secondary air bypass or a egr to pass emissions standard in the us, VW also said it would cost potentially $10m in development to modify the engine to meet us standard, but US demand for such an engine would never be there.
they already sell the engine in 140 and 170 hp variations in europe.
i would think you could let a car slide for not having an egr valve (or whatever the emissions problem actually is, this is the part of the post i could not verify) if it can get 50-70 mpg. i would think the difference in fuel economy would be accepted because the emissions effects over 100 miles would be so much less than a hummer.

Turbo or not, 125 hp will not drive the insurance up.

These are interesting ideas for what people would like GM to produce but I really dont think GM is even considering developing a GTO or Firebird any time soon, at least they shouldnt the way i see it.
As for the Aveo, after the recent facelift I really think the current generation is the final and they will be getting rid of the nameplate.

The trouble is, even if you smoke a formula firebird in a wild street race,.... you still got 'Beat'.
They could even make a wallflower version and call it the beatnik.
Of a pree smashed one and call it the beatup
A real low version and call it the beatdown
A super sexy version and call it the beatoff.
a winter only one and call it the beater.
One for women in the snow and call it the wife beater.
One that makes lemonade and call it beatlejuice.
And finally a 300 hp supercharged version called the beast

those designs seem like the typical brainstorming concept sketches that never make it to production. Designers will forever draw super-sleek cars with tiny slits for windows and enormous 30 inch wheels, but practicality calls for moderation. If you're gonna want to see where you're going(particularly when backing up), you're gonna need decent sized windows, and huge wheels are just plain expensive, not to mention bad for fuel economy. As good as they may look, there are certain factors that limit elements of design.

2010 Aveo, with all eyes on GM we will see what they release, the 2010 Aveo if similar to sketches would be interesting, looks like something out of a transformer movie.

Saw in the paper yesterday GM got a large chunck of change from the gov.
Didn't read it but there must have been some "Small print" on what they can do with it.
IMO..If GM makes a fancy version of the Aveo,turbo,body kit,wheels,etc it would put the price up around
$20 g's plus which is about where a Colbolt SS is.
Car&Driver,Road&Track or one of them did a three way ( ColboltSS,Mitsu EVO, can't remember other but ... ) and the ColboltSS won.
Wasn't the best in any cat. but overall was the winner.
Dealer had a loaded Aveo when I got mine and it was $17,000 +, Guy that sold me mine just laughed and said this one been here for awhile.
There not making much $$$ off them but keeps the flow through the showroom and service and repair busy.
Might see body styles like pic's above but will be tamed down with out wheels and body works.
GM should work on MPG not styling. After all that is what the Aveo is...Basic transportaion.
I do like mine and would buy another.
