Thumbs up Thanks guys for reporting spam posts

There are more than a couple of members who send occasional "spam reports" to us moderators by clicking the little "REPORT POST" icon at the bottom left of spam posts.

We often kill spammers before they are even seen by you guys, but sometimes they slip through the cracks (or I go snowboarding for a day or 2 and they go crazy while I'm gone).

Reporters - you know who you are! Just wanted to say "THANKS!" We appreciate the heads-up.

(Here's what the "REPORT POST" icon looks like -- pic from another site -- in case you're wondering...)

I remember a few months back, looking at a power lock thread, and some new guy posted a link (and his only post ever, oddly enough) to some funny looking power locks. Almost like they weren't power locks... They weren't power locks, were they?

      They were probably iPhones

      ---

Another trick these guys sometimes use is: sign up, reply in a bunch of threads with useless info (sometimes they just post re-worded versions of posts people have already made in the thread). If there's nothing obviously spammy about them, they don't get deleted. So they come back days or weeks later and edit their posts to include links to whatever phones or power locks they're selling. Because it's just an edit, it doesn't bump the thread and we may not notice.

The reason they want to add links isn't because they think people will click them, it's because the search engine spiders follow them automatically. If you make a link from a legitimate site to your site, it helps your search ranking. That's what they're really after.
