Trunk only opens with key

I can't open my trunk from the inside. The lever I pull up won't release the trunk. I'm guessing something isn't connected but I'm not sure where to look. I have an 07 sedan ls.

If it's mechanical, I would trace the cable. My '08 is electrical, with a button on the side of the door(???). There's a sharp relay "pop" when it is released.
