      OBDII Code P2297

My 06 has thrown the code P2297 on two separate occasions, in the same approximate location, and driving conditions, about 6 days apart. The code refers to an O2 sensor malfunction during deceleration, sensor 1 bank 1. Since the engine only has one bank, I am guessing that sensor 1 is the upstream sensor. Is that correct?

Its probably not the O2 sensor, but the ECM being dumb. There is a TSB on that one:
      Component Description:
      15. DIGITAL INSTRUMENT PANEL
      Bulletin Number: 3941
      Bulletin Date: Oct 2006
      Vehicle: 2,006 Chevrolet Aveo

      Summary:
SES LIGHT AND STC P2297 WHEN DECELERATING DOWN A MOUNTAIN - RECALIBRATE ECM. VEHICLES WITH 1.6L ENGINES. ( NHTSA ITEM NUMBER - 10020581 )

But yes, it would refer to the upstream sensor.

Thanks for the reply. I was decelerating down a mountain both times. Now I need to find someone to recalibrate the ECM. Or I can just reset with my code scanner when I drive that route (not too often).

I guess you saved me from buying a sensor that would not have solved the problem anyway. Thanks again.

I f you don't travel that road often, the light should reset itself after a while.
