GM Parts FAIL Rant

after Finally deciding that I was tired of looking at that Check Engine Light, I took Scoots to the Local GM Dealer to finally figure out what was causing it: the Oxygen Sensor itself went Belly up, and they were going to fix it for a Wallet Raping $491! well, 2 and a Half hours Later, and the Service Writer tells me I'm going have to Bring Scoots Back Tomorrow, because GM Put the Wrong Sensor in the Box! Two and a Half Hours of My Time WASTED because GM Can't seem to put the correct part in its box!

A part boxed wrong and 2 1/2 hours to figure it out is incompetence.

$491 for an O2 sensor that retails for around $100, and takes 10 minutes to install is priceless.

Let's hear from the GM Customer Service girls about how much they "care" about you. Let's hear all their saccharine words they will say to sooth you. Let's hear them agree that they have lousy, rotten dealers such as the one in your experience. Do you think they will ever admit that in THIS forum?

It's little or no coincidence that this is now 2014. Ultimately you will be told that after three years have passed on your 2010, the warranty can't possibly cover what is wrong.

This is planned obsolescence. The car was meant to generate failures/problems after three years. Now GM expects you to buy another one (or something more expensive).

Do you want to cave in and buy another Chevy? Or do you want to complain effectively and persistently, so as to get them to fix the one you have?

I knew the warranty was useless a year ago, cars are now pretty much 90% electronics, and and of course the electronics and the electrical system is only covered in the 3/36 warranty. The powertrain warranty only covers the mechanical parts of the engine and transmission, and the 8/80 emissions warranty only covers the obscenely expensive cats and the PCM. And I WILL be DEMANDING why I'm paying what makes no difference HALF A GRAND for installing ONE SENSOR.

Because of the Bolded part, and also due to the fact that my School's Tech 2 only goes up to the 2009 Model Year, I was FORCED to Take it to them! if it wasn't for that little issue right there, I would have Bought the sensor MYSELF and installed it MYSELF FOR FREE. and to GM Customer Service: Why the HELL does it take an HOUR AND SIX MINUTES to Replace the Downstream Oxygen Sensor when I can have it done in HALF THE TIME!?

I have replaced many O2 sensors in my day and never heard of such an issue. I still would have done it myself after hearing that price for it. That scan is probably what cost so much.

Miss Patsy, contacting my Dealer will not be needed, as I will be going back there this afternoon to complete the repair, and I will ask the service writers that question. (in a much nicer tone of course) my Dealership's service writers are very courteous, and will assist the customer any way they can. they were very direct and very apologetic when they told me that the wrong sensor was in the box, although I will ask them if they give Student Discounts to ease the sting of this repair. its probably that Friendly and helpul attitude that help them get the Mark of Excellence Award.

well, I have some Good News, and some Bad news: the Good News the ScootaDrive is back to Perfect Health! the Bad News: my Wallet got Lightened by $544.90! but the good news is I didn't get charged for Today's visit!

(you are just as bad as Pickles was) but now this matter is CLOSED, I've spent the cash, my car is fixed, and lets help someone else that has a problem with their aveo, and stop dwelling on my problem.

The certified GM dealerships are our "eyes and ears" to customer repairs and diagnosis and we rely heavily on them to inform us of any outcome with the customers. I feel ya 2010 LT, just for assurances sake I took in my car which I know use for about 600 miles a week for my new gig and paid just under $500 for 2 sensors that would have took me 30-45minutes to swap n about $150 for parts , but piece of mind that the car is in optimal condition is priceless- cant afford the random mishap

My apologies to both you and the GM rep. Seeing the quotation without the author cited, it was hard to tell who initially made the comment about "crooked" dealers. But I agree, there ARE crooked dealers and incompetent service departments at some dealerships.

GM is a huge corporation, not an individual person. If they can't withstand criticism, they don't deserve sympathy.

Chevrolet will never reveal who their bad dealers are - and there IS a problem with their dealers.
The reason that there are fewer dealers in recent years is because GM was mismanaged and was bankrupt, and subsequently bought by the US Government. I found out the hard way that the two dealers nearest to me have service departments that are incompetent. I have to drive 25 miles to use one that IS competent.

When my warranty is entirely expired I won't be returning to any Chevy dealers. There are other competent repair shops other than Chevy dealerships.

well, it WAS $496.49, but the Lovely State I live in Decided to Slap $48.41 on because we have THE HIGHEST Sales Tax IN THE ENTIRE COUNTRY (9.75%)

I just simply CANNOT understand why one sensor that books for about $100 and takes 10 minutes to install costs $400 in labor to install. It's on the front of the engine and NOTHING has to be removed to get to it!

Answer that one Patsy! Not to be rude, but it's not like it's a Timing Belt or something else that's huge.

To be perfectly honest, I would've had them diagnose it and would've done the repair myself. I REFUSE to step foot on the lot of our CROOKED dealer and have NOT been back since the first "free" oil change after I bought Chewy.

I simply find it amusing that she cannot answer this question without mentioning their customer service policies.

I don't intend to rake Patsy or anyone else at GM over the coals, I just want an HONEST reason of why such a SMALL repair costs SO much! I'm furious and it isn't/wasn't my car, my time, or my money.

Andrew, I actually asked my dealer why it takes an Hour and Six Minutes to replace the Downstream oxygen Sensor (and they just skirted around the question), when I could have done it myself in a quarter of the time. but as I mentioned before, that "Oxygen Sensor Heater Resistance Relearn" and the fact that my school's Tech 2 (With the Proper CANDi Module!) only goes up to the 2009 model year, is what stopped me from doing it myself. when it comes time in 29,000 miles to do my first Timing belt service, I WILL be Doing that procedure MYSELF!

EDIT: this is just a little theory, but I think I got charged with that $250 in labor, because my Dealer's Building was Recently remodeled to the Corporate Look, and this is just the Dealer Recouping the costs of the Remodel.

I still think that you were royally screwed with that price. I realize that you couldn't do it yourself, but regardless $500 was way too much money for that procedure. When my Timing belt was replaced under warranty it was a $700 fix. That is understandable, this is not. Even if the building was recently remodeled, (so was ours) that doesn't justify royally hosing everyone to make up for it.

I'm starting to wish they would simply ban the GM reps from this forum. Their spam responses are useless, most likely if someone comes here they HATE their dealer and are attempting to do something/repair themselves. Or simply don't want to be ripped a new one when they go in for some minor repair.

I'm to the point that I was to reach through Patsy's computer (or whoever is filling in at the moment) and break his/hers keyboard. This is becoming a nuance, everyone almost always ignores them so what's the point of them posting and being here? Not to mention that a significant portion of the Aveos here have passed the factory warranty, and that's the main reason that the owners no long associate with the stealerships. Some simply want a second opinion, but most use repair shops outside of the dealers.

If I ever start a thread and the GM reps reply, I'd delete their post if I could. :)
