2004 aveo runs then dies

ok my son has a 2004 aveo and 2 weeks ago he was at work and on his way home the car died he parked it and we went don't to see what was wrong with it later on I got in it and it started right up drover it home and then it dies as im pulling in the driveway
so I figured the fuel pump was heating up and dies so changed it with a spare from a car that I junked still same problem car runs for about 10 mins then dies and wont restart so had a mechanic look at it and he thought the fuel pump wasn't getting power so we bypassed the factory wire with a wire on a toggle switch car starts no problem but still dies and wont restart it turns over but wont start then I hear a clicking sound and it starts
so I figured the fuel pump relay is bad so I switch it with the ac one witch is the same and still the same problem

only thing I can think of is the antitheft system

any ideas ??

They didn't use DeGiorgio switches in Korea, so we're off the hook on that one. There's also no reported common shutdown/no-restart issue with these Aveos either. And it's hard to second guess what a professional mechanic has already tried to diagnose. Did he determine for certain that it was fuel, rather than spark, causing the no restart? If not, you might want to get that question answered first.

Any check engine light or codes? Have you been able to isolate the component that clicks before the restart?

The clicking noise is the what throws me.

There are a few things that could cause this from fuel to spark issues. The 10 minutes it takes that it runs could be a system "over heating" or it could be the car going into closed loop. If there are any codes, that would point to the sensors that keep the car running. The fact that there is a cool down period points toward the electronics in either case. If there are no codes, then it would still most likely be fuel or spark. Since you have already rigged the fuel pump, odds are it is the coil pack.

there are a few other possibilities. like a partially clogged fuel filter. that once running the clogs jambs and cuts fuel, but after sitting the debris will loosen and allow gas to pas through again. Even the ECU can do this if the ground wire is shot.

if you can see what is clicking, it probably will lead to the cause.

edit, now that i think of this, if it won't start and clicks then restarts. its possibly the starter relay.

The only check engine light code is the o2 sensor alread changed the coil pack when the car dies the starter still turns the car over the clickjng is the fuel pump relay we already changed it as well

Have you at least checked the O2 sensor wiring and connectors? If nothing turns up there, you might consider replacing the O2 which is causing the code. Even though a bad O2 sensor shouldn't cause a shut-down and no-restart, I'd want to fix anything fuel-related that the computer is showing faults on.
