so what is ford's entry level car lol
Some interesting nuggets, courtesy of http://www.subcompactculture.com/2010/0 ... sales.html
- the aging Aveo (4,238) managed to out-sell the new Fiesta (3,349) which was in its first full month of sales
- Even Toyota sold fewer Yarises in July (3,069)
- only 3 of 13 subcompacts sold more than Aveo: Soul (8020), Versa (7725) and Fit (6471)
there are a lot of hamsters arounds nowadays
GM U.S.A. moved 4019 new Aveos out of the showroom in August, its 3rd best sales month of this year, and above the 2010 monthly average of ~3500.
I'm not sure if this even applies but as an Aveo owner, and granted I bought a base model for commuting purposes, I'm extremely happy with mine. Now at 115K I've put very little money into the car in its 6yrs of ownership. Sure I've replaced tires, brakes, and belts, both serpentine, and timing, and done my oil changes regularly. Just recently at 114K I had to do wheel bearings on the left side and a right side lower ball joint but the car has been wonderful. I paid $9K brand new for mine in July 2004. I often wonder if most of the bashing is done because those who are bashing are also beating on their cars. I'm at a point now where I drive the Aveo 95% of the time and the 02 Suburban, 85 Mercedes diesel sit parked unused. My Suburban sits so much that it only has 70K on the odometer. My 85 Mercedes is a 300SD Turbo-diesel and thats my fun car. That has 282K on it.
Aveo U.S. sales numbers for September were just posted - best month by far this year:
6552 - Sept ... well above this year's monthly average of 3921.
That's up 243% over last September - but last year's numbers were skewed by the end of the Cash for Aveos program - a sales drop hangover after the incentives went away.
Interesting: that's actually a tie for the 10th best month of sales since the car went on sale in late 2003, and it's more Aveos sold in one month than all Pontiac G3 sales combined. :)
What's going on? I don't know what the U.S. market is getting, but in September I saw a lot of ads for the Canadian Aveo with hefty factory discounts offered.
Holy hotcakes, Batman:
6038 Aveos sold in the U.S. last month, up 313% from a year ago.
(See post #1 for 2010 month-by-month figures.)
Healthy numbers for sure, but the percent figure is still exaggerated by the hangover from last year's Cash for Aveos program.
it must be my genius reasoning selling these aveos...
I drove an auto as a rental in Austin while a job interview. I liked it and when gas went to 4 bucks, I was driving 60 miles one way commute. I bought my 2006 Aveo slightly used for 9.5K in 2007. I am very happy with the car. It's gotten me back and forth to Iowa several times and now my insane but regualar weekend commute of 600 miles.
Rentals are a good way to exposed to new cars. I drove a nisson something or another in April on a trip to Vermont. I really did not like the car handled corrections from wind gusts.
I disagree. I as u know, I have a Versa and a Aveo and in my opinion the Versa is way better, I think its not great looking but neither is the Aveo Sedan, Lets see... Versa: 1.8L engine, way more precise 6 speed(not five) manual, chain driven cams(not belt that breaks at 60k and destroy the engine), tons of more room, way firmer ride, its very easy to see if I'm wrong, go to the trunk of the Versa and push down, quite stiff, than try the Aveo, its got a very soft butt), better materials in the interior, nicer trim on the dash, more comfortable, better stereo and speakers, more trunk room, EQUAL LENGHT CV's!, front air dan goes all the way under the engine to reduce drag and buffeting, black body clading all the way around(looks cool to me), btw I get better mileage of my Versa(but to be fair, in the Versa I fell/drive slow. I drive the Aveo quite hard so that is probably the reason I get lower mileage) the bad? Yeah! its a bitch to do any major work, its is a very complex engine but so is Honda/Toyota. Ugly? Yeah! not my cup of tea as far as design but could be worst, it could look like the 'RAT' car the Soul, or have the stupid looking center dash of the Yaris. The Aveo? much better looking(hatch), easier and simpler to work(thanks GM Daewoo), cheaper parts, great potencial to be customized, smaller so takes less room in my garage, has that EURO look inside and out that is simple but functional.
Yeah, u guys steped on my toes on this... I have the Aveo in the house, I would not trade it for the wife's Nissan, but would I trade it for a Fit? Hell, yeah. Would I pay the extra cost for a Fit? Hell, no! For now it is the perfect car for me.
Last but not least 'Beauty is on the eye of the beholder'!

Now, that is a bad ass Versa!
Another sales tidbit:
Aveo was the #6 out of 10 best selling cars in the US last month from American nameplates. (Feel free to debate how American it is :))
From: Top 10 Best-Selling American Cars In America - October 2010 - GOOD CAR BAD CAR
#1 Ford Fusion ... 17,362
#2 Chevrolet Impala ... 12,839
#3 Ford Focus ... 12,396
#4 Chevrolet Malibu ... 12,353
#5 Chevrolet Cruze/Cobalt ... 7019
#6 Chevrolet Aveo ... 6038
#7 Ford Taurus ... 5520
#8 Ford Mustang ... 5317
#9 Chrysler 300 ... 5211
#10 Chevrolet Camaro ... 5013
i dislike how the cruze and cobalt are combined. how many of each individually did they sale?
(is cruze living up to those terrible commercials about how great it is?)
Also is that all american overall? As in does that include trucks and SUVs?
Thanks for the sales figures Rabbit, its surprising how uninformed most americans are since most people think imports out sale domestics by a long range. The original Cruze 1st generation came out in 2001 to 2007 and was build by Suzuki under GM license, the 2nd generation 2008(the one we are getting now) and up is produced by Daewoo in Korean (so is the AVEO and SPARK). Now the Cruze is also being produced in India, China, Australia as well as Ohio in the USA. Prove that KOREA do and can produce quality vehicles...
The current model Cruze is espetacular in quality and has being sold in japan since 2008 and so far it has no reliability issues.
Honda, Toyota and Nissan will have a run for its money with the Cruze and the Spark!
By they way I also read the Cobalt is on the way out, GM do not need two compacts competing in the same segment...
As far as the Aveo same old 'yes'/'no'!
Sales are in for November, and the Aveo is still selling mid-pack in the U.S. against other subcompacts. Remind me again why GM is dumping this nameplate?

- And because I'm a nerd for the stats, here's what seven years worth of U.S. Aveo & G3 sales looks like:
http://www.aveoforum.com/forum/attac...1&d=1295299460
- Final 2010 tidbit: December 2010's numbers puts the grand total past the 400,000 mark. Total Aveos/G3 sold in the U.S. stands at 401,510.
will be interesting to see how the sonic sells, should pass these already solid numbers
Even if they'd kept the name, I think sales probably would have gone up. We'll never know!!
i meant the new model aveo/sonic should do better with the changes made to the car, but idk why they are changing the name
They have a few more months of remaining 2010 and 2011 Aveos to sell. I think GM is putting a $2500 US incentive out on the remaining Aveos, and dealers don't want Aveos on the lots the same time as the Sonics. I wouldn't be surprised if you can get a decently loaded Aveo for $10,000.
yeah there will be some really good deals
