PSA To All Aveo Owners with an Automatic

I have a 2010 Aveo5 with an automatic and I was only getting 24 mpg, after about the 18,000-20,000 I began getting 31-33 mpg but the key is to never let the car rev above 2,000-2,500 rpm which going 55mph max, maybe 60 mph also it helps to let the drivetrain warm up so the car shifts into 4th gear. I also installed K&N air filter so I am not sure how much that helped. But it will get better

PS Until I had this Aveo I thought all of my cars would be GM (I had a Lumina before this and I loved it) but with my fuel economy troubles and with no help from GM my next car will be Asian

That's what I was gonna say! Must be the "well, it's from GM, so it's American-made" attitude.

IDK what issues you're having with with your Aveo, cherveo. I have a 2009 automatic Aveo5 with only 12500 miles on it. I forgot when, but it was a long while ago (like maybe 10000 miles on it), my dad had to borrow my Aveo. He said he drove it over the speed limit, and got 30 mpg. And he drives 35 miles to work mainly on highways and freeways. No CAI, no tune, nothing done to the car at all.

      31-33mpg is pretty good

It is Asian though, more Asian than many other Asian cars.

yeah, Last Tank, I got 32.27 MPG and that's WITH Running the A/C (when the clutch kicks in, YOU FEEL IT.), AND running 70-80 MPH (Mostly to keep my rear bumper from becoming Tailgater Food) and that's mostly Interstate Miles (41 mile commute to school each day) I've got it down to where I fill up on Sunday, the tank lasts to the middle of the week, i fill up on my way home, and that second tank lasts the rest of the week!

Well I am with Cheraveo, my car doesn't shift into 4th gear either and was getting the same mpg and yip no help at all from GM. Well we will see what the judge has to say, I told them back in early 2010 I would be seeing them in court over this pos LOL and I have built a very nice case since that day. Just because you sell a car to a truckdriver, doesn't mean his father in law isn't a lawyer LOL.

Do you understand the difference between 4th gear and torque converter lockup? Please tell us you understanding of what you are describing.

Anyone can take anyone else to court, but that doesn't mean that because you start a lawsuit you will win. Actually, in any legal action the plaintiff has the burden of proof - which is much harder than that of being the defendant. And remember that GM (Government Motors) which is overwhelmingly bureaucratic in its corporate structure, has more well paid lawyers on their staff than they know what to do with.

hmmm well what I am experiancing is driving down the road at 100 KM/HR at over 4000 RPM with the transmission in D4 I am pretty sure that's second gear it's stuck in there and it happened the other morning here about minus 1 C

The torque converter lockup your talking about, this is how I would describe that, your driving down the road and fighting the car from crossing the yellow center line then without notice it switches to heading for the ditch LOL yu have to be ON GARD ALL THE TIME because you just never know which way it's going to pull.

6 times I have taken it to a dealership for this problem, oddly enough they can never duplicate the issue on the paper work orders...but they will tell me all about it verbaly.
