      Hello Forum,

Hi all, JB here and I just wanted to send my thanks to the forum and all its contributors.
I have an 05 Aveo automatic hatchback LT with 173K (kilometers).
There was no report of timing belt replacement from the previous two owners, so I was getting a little worried!
Did the timing belt/water pump/pulleys and seals today!
Initial inspection and the belt looked fine (no cracks or hard wear, just glazed), the idler pulley however had a stress crack from the outside to the inner hub/bearing and was definitely on its way out!

So... 'props forum' , the info and help here is much appreciated!
Timing belt done, paranoia back to defcon5

      thanks

      Hey Napdan,
Are you planning this maintenance in the near future.

      Cheers

Yes I am. I’ve just purchased a 2011 2lt and it has 95k miles. So the shop is charging 430$ to take care of it.

Good on you for taking the initiative for preventative maintenance.

I did this job in my driveway, and made sure I had an ‘assistant’ available to help.
Mine is an 05 so i believe it is a different configuration than yours, but I can say:
      1. Read through the procedure (or video that may be available) so you understand the scope of the job you are attempting.
      2. Make sure you have the required tools available at your disposal for what will be removed.
      3. Take pictures/make notes of what you are dis-assembling so you have a reference to refer too.
      4. Methodically ‘place’ your parts/bolts/etc in a systematic way so they are easily re-assembled.
      5. Sit back and compliment yourself on a ‘job well done’.

There is a ‘goldmine’ of info/members available here that will point out ‘tips/tricks or hidden pitfalls’.

Source your ‘Timing belt kit’ so you know what you will be replacing , there is also a lot of info on different kits/manufacturers you may want to look into.

All the best on the job at hand,

      Cheers

Yes , the posts from members and yourself had me complete this maintenance, so an order of thanks as previously posted.

BTW , thanks for the ‘Chevy de-badge’ tutorial, I started this late in the fall and haven’t gotten back to re-installing the ‘grill’ but will add a car to the garage with pic in the spring if this snow ever melts away.

      Cheers
