      Hello

Hello, I just joined yesterday and I am from South Africa . My car is an Aveo 5dr Hatch L model which is the base model. Its my first car so I don't intend on selling it even though I will be qualified and working next year. I will probably focus on making it look cool on the interior and outside. Here's some pics of it in all its standardness:

Other pictures are in the car entered in my garage.

I definitely intend on removing some of the plasticness from the interior and modding the head/tail lights.

Thanks and yeah I do need that. Maybe I'll make a post on it in another section of the forum but I've tried installing a tacho before but the wire for it isn't there. I even looked up where the wire should come out of the ECU and found that the pin was empty so I put a wire in and still nothing. I think the ECU is not programmed to give out a tach signal on my car.

      Welcome, Zurg!

I'm a bit surprised - the bumper covers are unpainted? That's the first Aveo I've seen with black bumpers (which wasn't a black car)!

Please keep us updated about the tach.

Thanks Metro And yeah the base models in South Africa do not come with color coded bumpers .

About that tach, I tried connecting it to the negative of the battery and the green lead (for the rpm signal) to each of the wires on the coil. I tried all three wires with no success. They do carry a signal but it never goes above 2200rpm on the tach so I assume its incorrect. After some reading I found that the aveo has some sort of electronic distributor system with a feedback loop. The only places an rpm signal should come from is the fuel injectors and the ECU. I'm thinking of taking it to somebody who will be able to program the ECU to give out the rpm signal because mine does not.

My thought would be to replace the cluster with an oem on with a tach. If your AVEO is anything like the rest of the world. (well more the rest of the world than the US) then it should work upon hook up.. as the ecu should be the same.

My car comes with the same set of gauges.
What I did to add a tachometer, I bridged a cable to one of the lines of the coil pack and used a tachometer able to work at 2 cylinders, so it can multiply or show the real rpm on the car, because I was getting the signal from just "one line" of the coil pack. Just take in consideration my engine is a 4-cyl 1.5L SOHC, not sure if the coil packs are the same.
