Love the 90's Japanese style. The only thing I dislike about the car personally is the front bumper.
super rice.
+1 you hit the nail on the headQuote:

Ya'll would absolutely hate the car scene in Japan then.
looks like a poodle sat in the car and shook itself silly. not in my taste.
Every area of the country, and different manufacturer brand owner, have a different concept or definition of rice.
In my opinion, based on what the standards around here, and the fact i am a VW guy. Most of you guys are ricers. but being on the board and getting to know what the "norm" seems to be for aveo owners, i figured out you are not. Its just a different curve...
i agree 100%, you vdub guys spend crazy money on uber rare parts that are almost unknoticible, and call it nice, now, don't get me wrong i like it, and would do the same thing if i had cash.Quote:

definitely rice, and the inside is horrid.
So by that definition a STOCK aveo with a rear wing...or any Factory car with a wing is RICE, huh? ANY car with a factory body kit is RICE correct?
ANY cosmetic enhancement that are only effective OVER the Federal speed limit would be considered rice, correct? So the Porsche with a height adjustable wing the starts to extend at only 35MPH is RICE correct? Because after all who needs an automatically adj speed sensing wing on a street car?
Tell them it is rice, because after all it is a race inspired part that is completely worthless at regular street speeds.
i say lose the front bumber and the interior stuff and go for the rally look with those scoops =)....and get a rear spoiler too
just my 2 scents
Factory wings provide proven aerodynamic enhancements.Quote:

my audi TT had a mandatory recall. i had to take it to the dealership to have a spoiler installed, FREE!
the reason was the design without the rear spoiler lost traction in the rear end from lift at @ 70 mph.
they had a few cars actually flip. So audi issued spoilers for every audi TT produced.
the new audi TT's have the retractable spoiler.
there are other examples. like the new beetle. when they made the turbo S version, it was capable of going fast enough that the factory put a retractable spoiler on it.
Factory is not "rice". Even on a Japanese car. However, a lot of people in the VW scene feel that the cobalt SS and even the STI wings are rice, because they are not "needed" aerodynamically.
A car with a ridiculously sized wing that won't ever be used because the car can't reach speeds high enough for practical use of the wing is rice. This car is rice mainly because of the non-functional hood scoop, and I've never been a fan of the razzi kit, too complicated and the front sticks out way to far. And again, the inside is the most disgusting thing I've ever seen. And I didn't notice until just now it also has a roof scoop, this car is the definition of rice.Quote:

You have a TT ?
If so ...I hate you !
J/K
But post a pic any how....
yeah, i had a TT. It doesn't hold a car seat for anything. You are supposed to put it in the front seat and turn off the airbag. But at that point you need to strap the wife to your roof, and being she just had a baby she still feels fat and doesn't want everyone looking at her. So i had to sell it because it was too impractical.

(after seeing that last picture, i tore my car apart, and found i broke the stock springs, that was my last even in DS)
VERY NICE !
I would have got rid of the wife...LOL...
rice! uncle bens long grain!
ricer's are cars that are over with their body aesthetics.. ex. wide body kits, large wings, lambo doors, lexus tail lights, large mufflers, to make it short, its like their car is from outer space..
Not at all.
is that cardboard?
None of that is "RICE". Just people ****in around with their cars & havin a bit of fun.
No one here on this forum has ever had a piece of **** car that they really didnt care what they did with it? House paint, big ass stickers, painting the TIRES yellow & purple. I've had cars that were so rusted I would cut the roof off & rivet canvas to the frame & then to top it off with some brand new chrome wheels.
WHY?..... Just because.
RICE is a car owners attitude, not a car style. Thinking the car is something it is not & trying to drive it that way.
Here is a link to Beater racers, that alot of peopel on this site would consider rice, yet I garantee that 99% of the cars at this linked site are faster then any AVEO on this forum. They are by no means pretty but they race the hell out of them. before I got married I used to do stuff like this all the time.
The 24hrs of LeMons....
http://www.iconocast.com/00005/M5/News4.htm
You know those cars that run LeMons are highly modified. Tires, brakes, roll cage, are not included in the $500 dollar cutoff.
I kind of agree with this but style is a big part of it too.. if you have a car that is stock and you say it is fast, that means your dumb not a ricer..but if you have a base neon with an unpainted body kit, rims and a big wing, and suddenly think you can beat a mustang = ricerQuote:

and i love lemons, but yeah they have extra $$ into them.. and usually unlimited tires etc.. plus thay all get new brakes and saftey in addition to the budget.. a friend of mine almost made it into the finals for the show.. i think he is going to try and make it again this year. there is a low budget one out too now though, the cars only have to pass state inspection to enter.. anything else goes.
But remember it isnt about what is under the hood...right? It is what the cars look like. If anyone of you saw ANY of those cars parked on the street, or stopped at a light. I can almost garantee the first words of of your mouths would be to call it
RICE.
I showed someone a photo of a MAtiz with a BodyKit. First thing out of their mouth was RICE..until I told them it had a C6 vette 7.0L engine. All of a sudden it was badass.
Go figure.
^because it now has the power to back up its looks.
This whole thread was started based off of a picture.
Everyone bases RICE off of looks, correct? If you cant hear or see it run & do not know what is under the hood, then people assume it is RICE, correct?
Remember the definition of RICE given at the beginning of this thread. "RACE INSPIRED" So how then are RED painted rims & WOOD spoilers RICE? I dont know of ANY racing org that uses wooden spoilers & body kits. Hell body kits themselves dased off teh def given are not rice, because they are not "race inspired" the are just LOOKS inspired". What racing or requires VIS carbon fiber hoods & Invader body kits? None that I know of, so how are they "race inspired" & considered RICE?
Granted ALOT of crap on the road looks really REALLY stupid. But that dont make it RICE...by the definition given.
Now **** like Dual exhaust on a Neon, Aveo, or any other NA 100HP 4 cyl I would consider rice. Fake Red painted brake calipers that look like BREMBO's I would consider RICE. **** like that.
you are seriously over thinking this. Look at that first post again. Click the link and see that sweet ass 7 sec 0-60 time. If you think that is enough "go" for that terrible "show", I am happy for you. That means you will never have to buy anything with more than 110hp because it will be enough for you.
I could not agree more with you. Your crazy man!Quote:

I've been dealing with "riced out cars(once called hoopties or Cornbread..for the American version, camaro, mustang, ect)" since the early 90's. I've seen it all.
As for the 7 sec 0-60. Yeah, it is slow as hell. BUT if he somehow managed to knock almost THREE seconds off from a stock Aveo...then obviously he must have something done.
Regardless how is that bodykit rice...bt definition. It has NOTHING to do with "Race Inspired". If it does show me teh sanctioning body, that uses body kits like that.
A 14 sec 1/4 mile civic is still slow as balls. BUT considering for fast it is compared to stock, it is still a good achievement & I give them respect for doing it. Some are just SADLY misguided in the aesthetics dept.
Not trying to talk **** or stir the pot. Just trying to have a decent conversation about uglyass cars. Some say RICE some say Bad taste. Either or. We all agree they are ugly as hell, correct?
His times are fake. Look at his sick 110hp.
Flippen super RICE!!
I'm smelling a big pot of Uncle Ben's cooking...super rice.
