Have you driven one? It runs the 1/4 in 14's which is pretty quick. More importantly it's very well balanced and quite frankly there is more to a fast car than how fast it can get to 60 or a 100. To be a good track car, it needs great handling, great brakes, reliable engine, ability to easily go 130mph, not overheat at 100+ degree track days, etc... The Rx8 does this well. A turbo car might be faster, but it's also more expensive to maintain and produces a sick amount of heat.
What would you suggest which I can get under 15k, not FWD, Reliable, looks good?
I have rode with my friend in one. Waiting for power really sucks. It is like VTEC, no power till high in the RPMs. It is great for the twisties tho.
Mildly used Miata is what I would say. You really cant beat it. There are tons of mods for them and they are going for fairly cheap. Plus you can get more power out of a miata for cheaper than you can in a RX8.

see i dont think hes completely worried about it being a track star...he just wants a good looking (cant beat the look of a stock rx-8) daily driver that will keep up at the track
Re: Finally getting back to the track
I like the look of the RX8. I just like the look of a fatter wallet more :D

This from someone who drives an Aveo?!? I try really hard not to talk smack on these boards but come on, are you serious? Have you ever been on a road course? Have you driven an RX-8?
Re: Finally getting back to the track
Yeah the Aveo is my only car.
I have been on a road course. I have raced an RX-8. Not fast acceleration like I said. For 30k, there are far better cars out there.

Who said anything about new? I can get an 04 or 05 with a 100k warranty on the apex seals for $15k
Re: Finally getting back to the track
And that terrible resale value does not tell you something?
All I am saying is there are way better options out there. An early c5 Vette or 2nd gen Miata with money left over are 2 options. IS 300 is also another good option.
