Help with deciding which tires to get

I'm still riding around on my winters, hopefully will get some summers by next week. Walmart and Canadian Tire both had some at $400 tax in + installed for all 4. Walmart was selling some Nexan 5000 or something like that, and Canadian Tire had Uniroyal.

I also checked at Costco, they had a few different brands. I heard good things about the Potenza's, but they had a bunch of different ones and the guy didn't seem to know anything.

I want a pretty good summer tire, but I don't want to spend $800 either.

Can you offer any recommendations/experience/advice? I would prefer a real summer as opposed to an all season, but if you can offer a compelling argument as to why I should consider otherwise, I'm all ears.

For the past decade or so I've bought all my tires from The Tire Rack: http://www.tirerack.com/index.jsp?s_kwc ... 866549223&

The wide selection and their prices are hard to beat, and the user reviews are very helpful in gathering information and making a choice.

Tire rack is decent priced versus conventional stores. but places like tires easy, and treadepot tend to have much better pricing.

Even discount tire direct can have a great price during a sale. And even more companies drop ship through ebay anymore at substantial savings,

Oops, I forgot about the size. It's 185/60/14. On that note, is it worth considering a 195 tire instead of 185, or should I just stick with original size?

that much of an increase will be marginally better in performance handling. But at the same time be marginally worse in economy and more drag, which might even be an even move with the increase in diameter? i am talking small numbers here..

a 185/60r14 can be had for as little as $38 canadian from tires easy, but you should do more research into what you want as far as treadwear and such for performance.

(tires easy canada doesnt have as nice a selection as the us site)

Re: Help with deciding which tires to get

I have read mixed reviews about the Nexen N5000, so I'm not sure whether I want to get those. $400 is cheap, but I also don't want crappy tires.

If I order from one of these sites online, I have to pay quite a bit more to have it shipped to Canada. Even so, a set of Bridgestone Potenza RE960AS can be shipped to me for $457 from tirerack.

i can also get a set of Falken Ziex ZE-512 shipped for about $430

I am having a hard time choosing a tire! :P

Just my 0.02$, discount tire has matched (and beat) my price quote from tire rack before... saved me around $200 on a set of four michelin's for my cx-7 last year.

I concur with Serega, discount will match anyone's price as long as it's on paper and it is a valid website. I got a set of cooper CS4's same size and out the door for $230 including the TPMS. For the price these are outstanding tires. let me know if you need to know the website that i got my quote from.

Yeah if you could tell me the site that would be awesome.

Well, finally Costco can install the 185/60/14 Potenza RE960AS for $455 everything included. I think that's a pretty good deal, it's only slightly more than what Walmart wants for the Nexen N5000 and Canadian Tire for their Uniroyal.

Do you think I could still do better by ordering online, paying shipping etc? Or should I just go for these Potenzas? I have only read good things about this tire.

Did a price real quick on discounttiredirect and it will cost $550 to have the same Potenza shipped to me , because of prepaid canadian tariff fees...
