Any particular reason your thermostat housing broke?

It just failed. It split along the mold lines.

With such dire consequences from a failure, I think that I will replace mine. It can't be too difficult?

It is easy, depending on your year, you may already have a metal one installed. I would not lose sleep over it though.

so my dad/mechanic showed my old thermostat housing to the guys at the parts store and they have a friend with an aveo and they will be changing theirs soon now.

I checked and my 2005 Aveo LS has a metal thermostat housing. I bought the car used so I don't know if it ever had a plastic one.

they didnt make metal housings until 2007, so i imagine it was plastic at some point.

Ah so it was in 07, I thought it they started in 06, 07 makes more sense with the re-design on the sedan on the same year anyways
