That is crazy. All the people running open wifi could conveivably have the feds knocking on their door at any moment - for something they didn't even do.

Of course I'm not running open wifi at my house, but estimates are as high as 70% of residential wifi routers are unsecured. There are tons of non-technical people plugging in wireless routers daily that have no idea of the consequences of someone else hijacking their net connection. Take a quick war drive and you'll see it's true. Now, a lot of blame lies on the router manufacturers....but that is another topic. What about business owners like your local Starbucks that offers wifi for their customers? FBI gonna be knocking on their door too?

I'd venture to say that about 90% of businesses are simply running WEP security, as well (at least around here). WEP takes all of 3 minutes to crack. Imagine the disruption to a business if someone were to do this on their line.

I just simply don't understand how stings like this are legal. Do I want pedophiles running around not getting caught, no... but there has to be a better way.
