Damn Alaska Roads!
Ok, so alaska is different, unfortunently we do not salt our roads we gravel them. I'm going down the road today about 50 feet behind a tractor trailer, well he only has 1 mudflap on the back of his trailer. Sure enough, like it was in slow motion I watch a rock fly up and peg my windshield. Now I've got a quarter-size rock chip right in the center of my windshield. There was a cable company maintence van right next to me laughing as I thrashed and cursed and about had a seizure in my car. I was pissed.

Re: Damn Alaska Roads!
OMG!! that really sucks! where i live here in ny is north of nyc in the suburbs and its also watershed area. our reservoirs feed nyc and the five boroughs. in the winter all they do is throw down gravel, and lots of it. i love the sound of my car being sandblasted every winter. i also added glass insurance to my policy for just that reason. its nice to know that if a rock flies up and breaks my windshield, the glass people come to me and repair it. cracks, chips, totally broken, whatever. its worth the extra $200.00 per year.

Re: Damn Alaska Roads!
Yeah, I wrote down his liscense plate # and his tractor # and reported him to Commercial Vehicle Enforcement for a DOT violation as he was missing a mudflap. I'm still waiting to see if they're going to pay for it. Probably not, the justice system always has a way of ****ing you no matter what lol.

Re: Damn Alaska Roads!
my windshield has been chipped since 1100 miles.. from ice falling off the roof of a truck trailer.. of all things.
maybe we should petition for a windshield recall ?

Re: Damn Alaska Roads!
My windshield is just rallied from driving up to northeren Alberta and back. Handful of dings and chips, a massive crack all along the bottom, and a smaller one slowly getting bigger on the driver side. Gotta replace it when i have the cash.

Re: Damn Alaska Roads!
Yeah, we go through a lot of windshields up here. I've had my s10 for almost 5 years and replaced my windshield twice already. It currently has 3 chips and 1 crack all the way across the top but it's in my tinted brow area and shadowed by my LUND moonvisor, so you can't tell. The aveo now has 1 right smack-dab in the middle for the world to see.

Re: Damn Alaska Roads!
Meh, I'm mad but it's just part of living in alaska. I'll wait until I get a crack before I change it, unless the trucking company is paying for it which I doubt.
