Truck Horns on an Aveo

We know, the horn on the Aveo sucks. It's like a friendly Mr. Speedy running around the neighborhood saying Hi! Now it's time to add some bite to this small dog.

You will need the horns, some electrical, some metal for bracket.

PART 1) The Bracket

1) Remove the front bumper cover. This really has to be done to get access to the space inside
2) Optional remove the bumper. There are four nuts 14mm holding the bumper to the radiator support
3) Cut the metal to length. I used about 8 inches

4) Mount the metal to the upper right channel. I welded mine. You could also use two 3/8 bolts to do the same function. I would offset vertically the two bolts to allow access with an open end wrench.

After Welding, if you weld grind down and paint.

5) Put a curve into your new bracket to follow the shape of the bumper cover.

6) Mount the smaller horn to the outside end. The bumper cover curls up more there. Mount the longer horn on the inside of smaller horn. Mount the air compressor on the lower channel of the bumper. You can see the nut and compressor holding in place behind the longer horn.

7) Test fit with the bumper cover. You may have to bend the bracket more or even angle it so the horns angle towards the car.

You can see the air compressor on the left, the longer horn in the middle and the shorter horn on the right.

8) Run the hose from the air compressor to the two horns using the Y connector.

9) Mount the bumper and it should look like this:

link a vid on youtube or something! ive been thinking of putting a train horn on mine, but now i see this for $25 haha

those aren't really truck horns. Just kind of cheapo ones from pep boys. A train horn is something you need a compressor for.

Yeap. They are cheapos with their own air compressor. Yes rear truck horns have a big air compressor and usually running more than two horns. Some of the same note or not. So considering I don't have space in the Aveo for a big compressor, nor the space to run many many big horns. These do just fine.

the main reason why those Big Trucks have such big Air Compressors, is because they have Air Brakes. the air is mostly utilized to stop the truck; the Air Horns are just a bonus item like the Air Seat.

when I was 16 I wanted to put a truck horn on my Datsun truck. Told my dad about it, he said something like, when people hear a big truck horn, people expect to see a big truck. Instead, being a total dork at the time, i went through a little faze where i collected horns off of junk yard vehicles, wired them all in, must of had twenty horns some out of tune, different tones, sounded like holy hell when i pressed the horn. Quite comical. fairly recently, i was driving on the highway, when i heard a train horn. Nearly jumped out of my skin, instincts had me looking for a train to avoid. But i live on an island, no train here. No tracks. some a- hole in a lifted truck just wanting to get his jollies. If it had been my g/f driving, she might have gone off the road from the surprise. While I fully understand wanting to upgrade a puny horn, be careful not to go too big. When you're in a tight spot on the road, and need that horn horn to avoid a serious accident, you wasn't them looking at you, not looking for a truck or train. Don't go too big. The plastic all in one unit airhorns are probably fine. But be careful. Nice write-up though. Just my two pennies. By the way, when I was younger, I mounted a three horn set up on top of my datsun 510 good, with the hose going through the hood to the compressor under the hood. Probably scared the daylights out of a few people.
