      Rear brake axle nut

      HI, ON MY 2005 THE REAR AXLE NUT IS CALLED A CHAULKING NUT, DO I JUST PUT A SOCKET ON IT AN REMOVE? MINE HAS A PEN OR CHISEL MARK ON IT FROM THE FACTORY LIKE THEY SMACKED IT INTO THE AXLE MAYBE FOR LOCKING PURPOSE, I AM USE TO OLD SCHOOL CASLE NUT AN COTTER PIN, I JUST DONT WANT TO DAMAGE ANYTHING AN WOULD I HAVE TO USE NEW NUTS WHEN I INSTALL? THANKS ANY ADVISE IS WELL APPREIATED!! STEVEWEED

      un-bend where they smashed it and remove nut with impact wrench. You can re-use it. I can't remember the torque spec on it though.. 150 or 220ft-lbs.

      Do they do it for safty an when i install it should i smack it back down with a chicel an hammer? Thanks

      it is so it does not back off, just like the cotter pin is used for.

      yes you should.
