well, technically yes. BUT if the ball joint is in the original position, and you replace the control arm without removing the spring from the strut, and you put it all back together it should be in the proper place. That is unless it has ever been aligned to compensate for the bushing wear in the first place.

I've got less than 25,000 miles on my car. Control arms replaced at 11k, and they need to be replaced again. The clunking is driving me nuts.

let me ask, why leave the ball joints in place? the attachment to the control arm is the alignment point.

and you dont really know if the alignment is good until the tires wear funny.

Hello....I had the left lower control arm replaced when my Aveo '06 was in the shop for something else...they called me and told me the bushing was shot and the parts were about $65...or i could get a new control arm with bushings and new ball joint already in it for $135...plus about $65 for labor. So I went with the new control arm, but now it is clunking again. I have to look for my receipt and see about warranty for labor & parts, but they told me it was a common problem with Aveo's and Cobalt's.

Has anyone tried to change the control arm, and the back vertical(up and down) bolt holding the control arm in place, got stuck and was stuck inside the metal shaft inside the rubber, and when you try to unbolt it, the whole thing turns nd you have to cut the whole thing out? That happened to me! The really bad thing about it is that when it got stuck, the bolt didn't go down, it actually pushed up on the frame and stripped out the little welded nut. It got stuck on the passenger side to, but b4 it could do all the damage, I just went ahead and cut it out. I ordered new bolts, but im sure there wont be enough room to add a locknut to it. Im just a shadetree mechanic, any help with this would be greatly appreciated!!! Thanks
