Aveo 1.2L 2010 Speedo stopped working and weird noises from the gearbox...

Hey all,
I've got an Aveo 1.2L 16v manual 2010 with a dead speedo (and ECU check engine light) and weird grinding noises from the gearbox when idling... but no problem switching gears and no clutch issues.
I've been told that it's the output speed sensor - but I can't see whereabouts on the gearbox the sensor is. I've tried doing searches for it on the net and looking at buying a new sensor, but there looks to be different shaped sensors for the Aveo - they're probably different sensors for manual and auto boxes? Not sure...
Anyway, does anyone have a clear photo of where the output speed sensor is on a manual box, if it's easy to swap and where I can get a new one from?
I'm wondering if the weird gearbox noise is a screwed output speed sensor?

Oh... just to add... is this an MOT fail? I guess it might be, as the car isn't registering any mileage since it stopped working! :-)

I don't know what transmission you have, but assuming it's a D16 this image should help. The part is number 9 on the diagram. I'm showing a GM part number of 96806579, but I can't confirm that is the correct number based on my manual...
