make sure the vehicle doors are closed and the side windows are fully open. Wear safety glasses throughout the entire procedure. Make sure the deployment area in the vehicle is clear of people, or loose objects. Failure to follow these guidelines could result in personal injury or vehicle damage


Disconnect the negative battery cable.
Caution: The sensing and the diagnosis module (SDM) can maintain sufficient voltage to deploy the airbags and pretensioners for up to 1 minute after the ignition has been turned OFF and the fuse has been removed. If the airbags and pretensioners are not disconnected, do not begin service until one minute has been passed after disconnecting power to the SDM. Failure to do so may cause personal injury.

Remove 2 driver air bag module mounting bolts and discard them.
Remove the connector from the driver air bag module.
Caution: When you are carrying an undeployed inflator module:

• Do not carry the inflator module by the wires or connector on the inflator module

• Make sure the bag opening points away from you

When you are storing an undeployed inflator module, make sure the bag opening points away from the surface on which the inflator module rests. When you are storing a steering column, do not rest the column with the bag opening facing down and the column vertical. Provide free space for the air bag to expand in case of an accidental deployment. Otherwise, personal injury may result.

Remove the driver air bag module.

Install the driver air bag module.
Install the connector to the driver air bag module.
Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in Cautions and Notices.

Install the new driver air bag mounting bolts.

Tighten
Tighten the driver air bag module mounting bolts to 8 N·m (71 lb in).

Connect the negative battery cable.

in the Aveo 09 wherabouts are the side airbags in relation to the label that say air bag? i have put seat covers on and i need to have a hole where the air bag is located

If you still have your owners manual the airbags location is on page 1-60 to 1-65 of the manual.
