      2009 central lock stopped working?

      Hello everybody,

In my aveo 2009 the central lock stopped working. First it began working with a delay after the key is turned in the door lock. Then after a couple of months it stopped completely. All the 5 doors do not work so it must be something in the main circuit.

      What might the cause be?

      Thank you!

Unless you have blown the fuse, it is unlikely to be the main circuit.

Probably, more likely, it's the front driver's side door lock actuator. They eventually wear out. As I mentioned in one of my prior posts, these actuators are a combination switch and solenoid, mechanically tied together via a plastic rod linkage. When they start wearing out, the solenoid does not fully move in either the open or close position, so the switch attached to it doesn't fully open or fully close either. When that happens, the whole system jams up, or any attempts to unlock will suddenly revert back to locking. At least that's what happened to my 2009 Aveo. In my experience, it would probably be a good idea to replace both front driver and passenger side actuators. Be warned, it's a bit of a pain, because the working space inside the door panel is minimal. I've attached the RockAuto link to the driver's side actuator.

Thank you, Deano. So, those actuators are installed within the front doors? Could you give a hint how to uncover the door to get to the activator?

Yes, the actuators are installed inside the metal door panels.

I did my actuator replacement after watching one or two Youtube videos for removing the Aveo plastic door panels. Just Google Youtube Aveo door panels, or Youtube Aveo door locks. You should find something.

If I recall correctly, the Factory Service Manuals were not very helpful when removing the plastic door panels or replacing the actuators. So if you don't have access to a Factory Service Manual, no loss.

One thing to remember is that the window needs to be rolled down to remove the plastic door panel, but rolled up to actually get at the actuator. And then rolled down again to re-install the plastic door panel.

Give yourself about 3-4 hours to replace one actuator.

      Hope this helps.
