2009 Aveo5 Crankshaft Postion Sensor location.

I was wondering where is the crankshaft position sensor on the 2009 aveo5. I searched and keep hearing it is next to the oil filter above the oil pan, but that isn't exactly specific. Any help would be appreciated.

Did you go look? Because that narrows it down to an area of about 5x5 inches at most, any more specific than that would be someone putting your hand on it.

I'm his brother and yes I did go look. That location was true on older models of the Aveo. He has a 1.6L ecotec which started in 2009. I can't find the crank sensor to be honest. I think it's under the timing cover to be honest.

Trying to find it under the timing cover would be impossible, it's on the other side of the engine.

Here's a jpg with a diagram of part locations on the 1.6L ecotech engine

Crank sensor is situated right next to the starter, here is the procedure to access it and remove it.

      1- Unplug battery terminal
      2- Remove starter
3- Once the starter is remove, on the right hand side of the starter hole, remove plastic cover(Has a wire in the middle of it)
4- Once the cover is remove you will find the crank sensor.
5- To remove the crank sensor you will need an allen key(5mm), the long ones are recommended since to reach that hex bolt, you will have to work blinded, since there is no way to have a complete visual on the bolt, you will have to feel it with your fingers first and then align the allen key

Bolt if quite easy to remove and doesnt require a lot of strenght. Not sure why, but I wasnt able to upload pictures, let me know if you need them.

Note for the next poor bastard to find this old thread - its a 4mm allen, not a 5mm. Since your working blind its awfully hard to tell. and be careful about the part numbers, everyone lists both the standard motor products PC549 and PC831. You need a PC831 for an 09 to 11. The PC549 is for 04 - 08.
