2006 Aveo 1.6 manual-Changed water pump but messed up timing marks

never mind. my nephew started working on this and I took it over. I thought I'd better check things out. I pulled the #2 plug while someone cranked the car. no compression. he finally told me he turned the key to try & bring timing marks around. he did not know to remove plugs.
I removed the valve cover. the valves on the intake side are not touching the cam. I count 5 I can lift. (not touching the cam. either collapsed or my vote is bent. the exhaust side seem ok.

I'm gonna have to pull the head. I may be nit picking, but, if I have the mach shop do the intake and test compression, I see no need to do the exhaust side. they look ok. (all touching the cam). the car only has about 82k miles on it. or just redo all the valves.

I've done a 32 valve car before but never pulled a head off an aveo.

options? if I decide to fix/sell this motor, are there other motors that fit aveos that are not eTech engines? what else fits this car? this is a 1.6l.

what do you think? what could I sell an 80k mile engine reworked for?

took off the head today (2.5hrs with hand tools not bad). had most trouble reaching two of the intake bolts and with that bracket. (big hands).

what I found was what is caked all over the intake and on top of the pistons (see pic). hard carbon gunk . wtf.?

do I have the wrong plugs or need to use high octane fuel? whats the best way to clean this? I'm thinking having someone hold a vacuum in the piston while I gently scrape or brush it off so none gets in the sleeve.

how can I prevent this? only 80k miles.

Melveo is correct. You are one tooth off. Happened to me, but my aveo still atarted, but idled like crap. You need all three points aligned. Go buy a Lisle twin cam locking tool. Saved me a lot of hastles. For 35 dollars it's well worth it. Good luck
