Suspension/Coilovers/Stiffness
ok i have H&Rs springs all the way around with 16x7 gunmetal Nexos. Not a problem with rubbing untill i put 25mm spacers on the back...the car looks sexy because now the wheels are even with the fenders in the fron and it the back and the back looks wider lower and phat. makes it look a hell lot better....buttt now the back rubs a bit...i need a way to stiffen up the back pronto but i cant spend 1000 on coilovers...i need some ideas please haha
thanks

Re: Suspension/Coilovers/Stiffness
a lil pic of the car at a carshow

Re: Suspension/Coilovers/Stiffness
Maybe try some spring spacer to lift it a bit stiffen it a bit . works like a spring lowering kit but in reverse.
-
Re: Suspension/Coilovers/Stiffness
thats an ideaa...hmm i think they sell those at advanced auto for like 20 bucks
-
Re: Suspension/Coilovers/Stiffness
that will raise the car though. you need to do one of two things. measure and roll the fenders accordingly.. or buy stiffer shocks (or put an addition into the stock bumpstops).
-
Re: Suspension/Coilovers/Stiffness
see what i was thinking was maybe i can put hard rubber rings inbetween a part of the spring so it cant compress all the way....just a rough idea but something like that....so it wont raise it but it'll keep it from goin down all the way
-
Re: Suspension/Coilovers/Stiffness
it will still compress, just somewhere else.
you need to add to your bump stops. making them higher / longer however you want to think of it, will stop the suspension travel sooner. hopefully before you rub.

Actually, if you could get the same length bump stops but in a harder rubber would be the best. The bumps stops are actually part of the suspension on most cars these days.

Re: Suspension/Coilovers/Stiffness
that is true. harder would be better than longer.
our bump stops are just foam "stops" on the shaft of the rear shock.

Re: Suspension/Coilovers/Stiffness
yeah cause i mean i dont know what other ppl think but i would like my suspension to be really gocart stiff because i drift and stuff and if i rub then thats a problem ha

Re: Suspension/Coilovers/Stiffness
Could you roll the rear fenders?
For my personal set-up, I have to ask...
What size tires you run?
What type of spacers did you go with? Bolt on? Extended bolts?
The set-up looks great.
Thanks

Re: Suspension/Coilovers/Stiffness
rolling the fenders would take a lil bit of work....i just have bolt on 25mm spacers with 16x7 Nexo's with a 40mm offset
-
Re: Suspension/Coilovers/Stiffness
So, what size tire are you running?
-
Re: Suspension/Coilovers/Stiffness
oh right sorry im running 205/40R16's....very sexy and stiff

Re: Suspension/Coilovers/Stiffness
Here's a thought, get 20 mm spacers instead so your tires barely clear your fenders instead of hitting them.
-
Re: Suspension/Coilovers/Stiffness
yeah i might do that....or i might get a rx8 becuase my friend is selling his for dirt cheap
-
Re: Suspension/Coilovers/Stiffness
Well if in the situation of either buying smaller spacers for my aveo, or buying an rx8, I must admit I would pick the second. LOL.
-
Re: Suspension/Coilovers/Stiffness
My questions with the 20mm spacers vs. 25 mm is whether the 20 mm spacers will have any issues mounting with my wheels.
I don't have indents on the back of mine. where the lug nuts fit up.
Heck would the 25mm units even work for me?
-
Re: Suspension/Coilovers/Stiffness
i am not sure how he did his car, but i put 25 mm spacers on mine to see where the wheel will sit, and i think our stud are about 28 30mm. which mean you would need either longer studs, holes in the backs of the wheels, wider adapters, or the cut down the studs to be level with the adapter.
the last options sounds bad, but its as "permanent" as going with longer studs. the difference is, when you are "done" with the need of the adapter, you can pay to stock studs back in, as opposed to pay to put longer studs on to run the wheels. It is really just about when you want to do the work.
(please know what you are doing to cut them down though)

Re: Suspension/Coilovers/Stiffness
I have been debating the H&R spacers and studs, but was hoping to get off easier by bolting on a spacer.
Thanks

Re: Suspension/Coilovers/Stiffness
yeah i cut my studs down a 1/8th of an inch so it's flush all the way around..worked for me and i have no loose issues everything is still tight
-
Re: Suspension/Coilovers/Stiffness
1/8th of an inch? and you have a 25mm spacer correct? (making note for my spacers..)
hell with an 1/8th inch i dont know if i would bother replacing the studs when i took the spacers off. i think twice that sticks through my lugs now..

Re: Suspension/Coilovers/Stiffness
 There's always something
-
Re: Suspension/Coilovers/Stiffness
yea it was just that little bit....butt before you put the spacers on find a way to stiffen up the rear suspension and let me know...im still plug and playing options but havn't found anything...my tires rub some and thats after i rolled the inside of my fenders in i NEED to find a stiffener and so does anybody before they put the spacers on....but the spacers make the back looks so phat and sexy...i deff dont regret putting them on

Re: Suspension/Coilovers/Stiffness
oh yeah and check my vid out...just a small race haha http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=34bbdia9sKg

Re: Suspension/Coilovers/Stiffness
lol that was awesome, the guy in the rx-8 must be embarrassed, the aveo is so fast off the line though
-
Re: Suspension/Coilovers/Stiffness
the rear on my car is already stiff. i installed fox body mustang shocks in the back, and will soon be trading in for adjustable coil overs.

Re: Suspension/Coilovers/Stiffness
I KNOWW everybody was suprised that iwas beating him off the line for the first three seconds about...plus my reaction time is .201 seconds....i kinda know how to race haha :)
