Sleeve Coilovers

Has anyone tried custom sleeve coilovers?

I have seen it done before in the past, essentially the strut is modified, or the sleeve simply sits on part of the stock strut as far as I understand. A set like these:

...are more what I am referring to.

Edit: I do have a set of skunk sleeve coilovers I can get for free so wanted to see if this has been tried.

I had a good friend that put these on his integra and they were garbage. The money you spend on these you could do an entire coilover swap and then some.

I had a sleeve set from ebay that were supposedly junk on my 94 civic. Cost me $60 and they stiffed her up dramatically and made the cornering extremely tight. They did what they were suppose to. Sufficed to say, I was impressed. But to be fair, it's VERY hit and miss with ebay parts. You never know the quality of the part until you have used it yourself.

if you research and shop spring rates, and the spring you get are accurate to their advertised springs rates. And you don't bottom out the struts, or over "Spring" the shock action with too much rate change, you can make sleeves work.. and work well. The big thing though is not just going with the cheap stuff. They can have up to 100lb difference in the rates within the same set. and be further off from that from the advertised rate for the set..

Alrighty, did not realize anyone had posted on this recently.

There is a set of 4, and it does have springs as well. This set was intended for a much heavier car so they will probably be far to stiff for my liking. Basically what I am going for is lowering 2 inches or less in the summer and being able to raise back up for the winter. I am looking for better suspension performance too.

It was mentioned to me that I need to ensure that the width of the sleeves is correct for the struts they are being attached to, if this is correct do you know the width of our struts?

I think I should probably get a picture at this point.

I didn't even open the link, but just please keep in mind when working with honda aftermarket parts there are WAY too many fake knockoffs, Skunk2 in particular. But that is true, these sleeves are designed to be used on a specific width strut perch that may not be the same as an aveo- from my experience Honda springs are much more narrow then ours. Put a $50.00 set of these on my buddies Honda Civic last week -LOL- and it rides like utter poo. Be prepared.

Going to try it, provided they even fit in the first place. Chances are I'm going to need to get different springs anyway, and I dont have my hopes up that they will work. These were supposed to go on a Subaru WRX, apparently they worked but were too low and the tires rubbed. Worst case scenario is I just remove them if they do fit but suck the big one.
